Seems like Horne injury was more than initially thought.

Great to see that we're playing players in their best positions.

Will be very interesting to see Francis at 10 and Harry at 15

Iím not so sure flogging Mr Waller is a badge of honour
Itís becoming a bit unrealistic now

Clermont

Chaume
Kayser
Slimani
Van see Merwe
Timani
Concoriet
Lapandry
Lee

Parra
Lopez
Raka
Lamerat
Penaud
Strettle
Toeava

Very worried about scrums with Slimani. Surprised Toeva starts ahead of Abendanon. With Horne injured, blooded players at prop and 15 for us, Iím not as optimistic as before. However on the flip side Jamal and Harry have a chance to claim those respective jerseys with good performances.

Blimey, that is 10 changes, including positional ones from last Sunday. For an away Champions Cup game in Clermont that is brave.

Yes indeed it will be interesting indeed to see Harry at FB (in his own words his preffered position) go for it Harry stake a claim. Also lets see some go forward from our 10 Mr Francis and see what Wlofie has seen. Shame Horne is out and I reckon the only time alex will get a breather (heaven forbid) he picks up a knock. Anyway COYS! give it a lash boys! Nowt to lose! Go well go careful

A genuinely exciting pick - a lot of pace in that selection now lets go and get at them

Normally I am sure the management would not want to change the team much across the European games, if we were fully competitive. But because of issues integrating new players after preseason we have to put this team out in game 8 when it would have been a good squad for game 6, injuries allowing.

Note no Steven Myler or Ace in the 23.

No Myler so presumably Mallinder covers 10, Foden covers 15 and Pisi covers Foden on the wing ?

I would have liked to see Pisi in for Fodes, just to give him a run.Let's hope that Stephenson gets on and has an injury free season. So much potential.

Essentially they are saying Clermont should win by 17 points

Is the Saints management effectively saying then in week 2 of European Competition, we are already done and out? In reality we all know that will be the case but it is the kind of selection I'd expect in week 5/6 of Europe.

I'm surprised to see Mallinder as full back.
Could you please explain me that choice ?

Nope I think this is the best team, Horne injured so Nafi as he is a 13. Francis was brought in as a 10 and a super rugby one. Brookes has not been playing well; so in comes Jamal. Api for some ballast against a big pack. Mallinder and Ace are kinda like for like.

Saints' forwards must get the better of Clermont's pack somehow, because that Clermont backline would shred most team's defences, even without Rougerie & Fofana

La Marseillaise,
Harry at 15 is his preferred position. I seem to remember he made his debut coming on as a replacement at 15 and scored?

Rougerie is too old to play the CCup now, Fofana is injuried.
Be carefull, Penaud and Lamťrat are great players, play both for France.

Thank you. I was surprised because he has always played as Nį 10 this season I believe.
Is Tuala injuried ?

Just one thing my friend: I am LE marseillais, and not LA marseillaise, I'm a good and strong man (Sm151)

For me, I think thatís his best position. He has pace, good distance with the boot and is tall. The only question mark is his defence and defensive positioning. He will be tested so it will be good to see how he goes.

I don't think this is a week 5/6 selection at all. Groom has ben playing well, Francis really should be our starting 10, Burrell back to his best position. Back row is as good as we can put out at the minute too. I'd say this is close to as strong as we could be right now

I also do not see this as a weak team. Perhaps you could give your logic Andy.

If its not a week 5/6 selection then I assume last weekend's selection was week 5/6. It has to be one or the other. Surely, the squad has been together for long enough for the coaches to understand their best team. To be competitive in this difficult pool then best should be a must in all games.

It does not have to be one or the other, Sarries had a very different team out against us both times and neither was weak. Best team changes due to fitness from injury, form and who your playing.

Last week was the wrong selection in my view even allowing forSaintAsh's comments.

For me itís the amount of changes. Whilst I agree that we should always be playing our players in their best positions, several of the side have had very little starts so far. From experience, Iíve seen this kind of selection or at least rung the changes later on in the group stage. I have also seen instances in which that team has been beaten heavily and those players dropped for the next game. If the same 15 is put out for Wasps I will happily take back what I said but if we are beaten and beaten well, I can see us reverting back. I think the poster above is right in that we got it wrong vs Sarries and the likes of Brookes has been due a rest from the 3 shirt for some weeks.

Would it be fair to say that over the years, sensible rotation has not been Jimís strong point and the fact that mass changes are made, it looks worse than it is?

12 has always been a particular problem and weíve never found or at least used a play maker there, it has always been a ball carrier.

Bonjour Le Marseillais,
Je suis d'accord avec toi Lamerat et Penaud is an amazing partnership... I really hope to see a very open game. I also think when Lopez is on form he can be a real maestro at 10, hope the weather is ok and the player throw the ball about a bit, I dont think we have much of a chance but Come On You Saints!

Would have loved to have gone to watch the game, Marcel Michelin is certainly one of the grounds on my bucket list.
Bonne chance a vous.
