Victory over the Sarries - Fans View

 

The game

 

No complaints about the result. Saints defence on top all afternoon even if they took 45 minutes (five of the ten added during the first half) to get a score.
Reihana was outstanding, Ripol everywhere. But the defence was the best I have seen all season, including that of Wasps.  Large

 

Other than that I thought Sarries played well especially in defence, whilst we loked a tad rusty. Saintsby

 

In the first half we did look as if we hadn't played for 5 weeks, BUT Brucie gets better and better (if that's possible).  Scored two, made one, saved two in my book.
Awesome. Is he the best all round player we've ever had at FG?  Discuss
Lordy was magnificent too. Pity the dislocated finger forced him off.    And as for Mr Maybank....... St Bart

 

24-3 Bruce gets two tries, both brilliant, Fox gets the other, set up by good forward play and a sharp run by Shane.
Thoughts on the game
* the game was quite open without ever really igniting
* not sure why Castagneide was booed, I thought he was the star quality on the pitch until he went off
* Best moment was just half a second after Fox's try when he ram-raided the Sarries player with all the hair hoddros

 

I thought a good moment was seeing Brucie's face when he heard 'there's only one Bruce Rehaina'. He was well chuffed!  Hope Mr Maybank isn't too badly injured. These refs must learn to avoid the players! Carole Thacker

 

Tommy Castenets was booed after a late high tackle on Air Shane St Bart

 

But was it really necessary to boo him when going off injured? Large

 

Yes which he did after receiving a headbutt/shoulder charge/ram to the ribs by Danny Richmond. Get real everyone the name of the game is to unsettle the opposition, it's not kiss chase. Booing anyone isn't rugby behaviour and as for the 9000 amateur refs there today, you all need a law book! I listened in amusement to loads of blokes in the south stand going on about Sarries shoving Lord in the back at a lineout. Of course they did, mayhem wasn't looking! Not defending the booing just reporting the reason for the initial outburst.
Totally unacceptable to boo some one going off with an injury, hope he is soon back causing mayhem in defenses.   Especialy next week against Glaws St Bart

Our mate dorcan 8 was well pleased with having two apalling refereeing displays to vent his spleen on in one match.
Slow start from Saints till Brucie lit up the landscape. He just keeps getter better. ( hands off Mr Henry )
Thought Lordy had a good one as did Oriel who was despite not crossing the whitewash personally was a constant running threat and worked tirelessly.

Surely we can't all be wrong. The standard of refereeing is a blight on the game. Roy Maybank had the most dreadful game....it's a shame that he was injured, but boy did we laugh!! He missed things that seemed to be missed by the entire crowd;the lineout pushing was an example. What about giving us a penalty when we were about to score a try. Martin Fox was better.......but!
We've got to be free to criticise these idiots. There was a degree of ignorance by some of the crowd. In our area we often acknowledge the times these guys get it right but we reserve the right to let them have it. We know the laws and we understand the game.
What about the guessing on the collapsed scrums...not a clue.
Sarries play acting was a disgrace; they were a rabble.   Cheesey

 

The one thing that really REALLY BUGGED me was that sarries physio/fitnesscoach who was on the pitch for nearly the whole 80 odd minutes, sometimes even when no sarries player was needing his attention officials should police this area much more rigourously  Saintsby

Yes agree, Bruce for the first few nominations, but Oriol also showed his running game, Foxy, Lordy, Sharky, oh and the full back in the first half! Chris Hoddle

*Ripol - Good running - could've probably got a few tries if he had more strength in the tackle but as said somewhere else on the board his workrate was good and was always looking for the opportunities

*Leslie - Good defence and organisation. thought he had a good game, havent seen him play like that for a while saints 80

 

Other issues

 

My notes tell me that there were 19 minutes of injury time in total. Even taking into consideration a two minute stoppage for the ref, it seems a tad excessive. So I guess WS makes a valid point as most of the stoppages were down to Sarries on the deck……
……..Congrats to Saints, but I fear there may be some incoming flak form Sarries fans located in Block B who will have a beef with the stewarding.
Finally - does anyone know what happend in the Church's stand near the Sturtridge when a load of folks stood up and the Stewards had to intervene?  Large

 

Spoiling game

Is the main description of Sarries stretching legality to he limit and stop free flowing play with as many unnecessary stoppages as possible. As for the Sarries physio in shorts well!! He didn't even try to get off he pitch even when his own players were not down or needed water. Saintsby

 

 

Drums

I don't think my head would agree with your sentiments that drums don't hurt anything! emergency pack of Nurofen were most useful on Sat. I can't say i've notice the drums when sarries have come in the past, but maybe i just wasn't standing near them. Unlike London Irish the druming was unpredictable and not that good apart from the chap who walked in front of the stands who could perhapse give the others a few lessons ( sorry chaps).
It would be a great shame if drums etc were banned from Games, but there should perhapse be an allocated place for them to be where they don't stop the enjoyment of the game for those around them.
The sarries fans seemed a good bunch and responded well to whatever the stewards said to them. Hinton Saint
