Travel talk with Jean from the Supporters Club

Hello and welcome to a new season. My name is Jean and I run the SSC coaches to the away fixtures with my trusted friend Maz. I thought I would run through a few things about the coaches to give you a better idea of what happens.

If you want to travel to away games you must phone me before 9pm on the Wednesday prior to the game to secure your seat on the coach. If you phone up after the Wednesday there are usually seats left, but there may not be. I have an answer machine, so you can leave a message and I will get back to you. I need to know your name, membership number, a contact telephone number and all the names of any other people travelling in your party. A membership number is helpful because sometimes I cannot hear all of your details.

If having booked a seat you find you cannot make it, please phone me to cancel your place in case I have a waiting list (this has been known to happen). On the match day I usually leave home about 1 hour before the coach is due to depart so you can catch me before then. This season will see the start of a new policy. If you fail to let me know you do not wish to travel more than twice you will need to pay 'up-front' for your seat. Payments by cheque would be better than cash if possible made payable to Saints Supporters Club.

We nearly always leave from the VIP car park on the Weedon Road, but if there any changes I will let you know on the phone.

The Saints Supporters' Club have a very good relationship with the coach company who are very understanding about noise and rubbish etc, but I would ask if you can leave your seats as you find them. We usually run two coaches, one we call the 'noisy' coach (with singing), whilst the other one is the 'quiet' coach. These phrases are from days gone by and to be honest, most of the time the 'noisy' one is quiet as well.

There were a couple of incidents on the coaches last season, which were dealt with very quickly by the committee. This season we shall not tolerate anything that gives us, our members or the Northampton Saints a bad impression. All the people involved with these incidents received letters telling them that if any more incidents occurred that they would no longer be a member of the Saints Supporters' Club, therefore no longer able to travel with us to away matches. I would ask though, if anything does happen on a coach that you inform and explain what has happened to the Steward on your vehicle, who will then deal with the problem. If you are told to behave by the Steward please do so as we are quite within our rights to pull over at the nearest safe place and have you removed from the coach.

The Saints Supporters' Club tries to run coaches to away fixtures for everybody; which means old, young and families. So please join us and make up your own mind. It is a subsidised cost however, you have to be a member to travel with the Supporters' Club. If you are not a member you may become one on the day you travel. This season we shall be running raffles on the busier away trips to help raise funds for the club, so your support will be greatly received.

I hope to hear from you to book your seats for what promises to be a very exciting season.

Kind regards,

Jean Collingwood.
