It's good news week!

This week the club announced three new signings to the squad. Although it was the worst kept secret ever it was, nevertheless, good news. Our signed up squad now numbers 30 good men and true which will, I am sure, be supplemented with a few dual registered/ loan players.

Where are we in respect to where we want to be with six weeks to go before the new season starts? Despite losing arguably our best two players at the end of last season we have retained some excellent players. Many of those who re-signed or are mid-contract have lots of experience. It is possible that some of them will exceed all expectations this year.

At the end of last season we saw some players get better and better during the play-offs, Rick & Mike Mayhem being two good examples. I would like to think that this will continue into the new season when Ollie Stedman will not be playing out of position. I think he will soon fill Buzz's boots and make the 8 shirt his own. I look forward to seeing him against our favourite Baby Dragon when we play Hartpury. Our back row will have a nice balance to it with Richard Beck retaking the 6 shirt (his best position imho) and there is p lenty of competition for all 3 backrow slots.

Despite having a lot of hookers (4) we only have 5 props on the books. In the past we have often loaned a prop or two from Prem sides and I expect us to do just that before the season starts. We have 5 experienced locks and if Dan Sanderson improves his form over last season then we will have a good competition for the the "boilerhouse" shirts

Despite Alex Davies being labelled as a universal back he ought to have the 9 shirt. Our annual "Who plays at 10?" competition has already started. Callum Irvine, signed from Hull Ionians is our only regular 10. It is rumoured that we will be getting a loanee from Bath who is their third string standoff. We shall see.

I guess that pre-season is going to plan. We are where we are in respect of sponsorship so the small squad will have to cope although we did suffer a lot of injuries last season. Bristol are firm favourites to win a prompt return to the Premiership which means that we are under no pressure. My expectations are realistic but I would like to see us play to our potential.

The crowd arrangements, all in one stand, might make for a good atmosphere when the darksiders get used to the big yellow orb. It will certainly be different and not necessarily worse than last season.

I am looking forwards to some live rugby once again. Roll on September.

Brush always took the players to Scotland for a week's training camp: I note that Bishop Burton near Beverley is the venue this year, though not sure if it is J-Lo's stamp of authority or a need to keep costs under control. Expect a few videos on the offie.

This season is going to be a real test for J-Lo. He has had continuity from last season and has had time to fully absorb the RU aspects of the game. If we are going to challenge Bristol or Ealing, who both have vastly superior spending power to us, then it will be by dint of J-Lo's superior management.

I have faith in him, and expect his man-management skills to result in us punching above our weight (metaphorically speaking of course).

Ealing having superior spending power to Leeds Tykes/Yorkshire Carnegie now that is a very sobering thought and makes me want to weep.

We have to realise that we are now an average championship club. Those with more resources and a bigger squad will succeed. We have to be realistic

This does appear to be the case. I am just reminded of the pre-match fans meeting last season when Sir Ian said that to all intents and purposes the club is run on Premiership lines in all aspects. Is this ditched now, what is the vision ? Are we going to be told.

I think the owners needs to come out and say something about the direction of the club.

We need to be searching (as I am sure we are) for additional funding

Don't expect anything from the club. Communication at any level is not their strong point.

Thanks for your thoughts WW...Although I am struggling to be "realistic"? It would be good to have some straight talking about our Premiership ambition and aspiration for this season?

Better for J-Lo to say "its not going to happen"...and then we can all relax? The Play offs are gone...which for me is a shame...as it was another...end of season...last throw of the dice?

I wish I could share your optimism Almo...regarding 'management skills' against -adversity?

The'straight top of the League'promotion criteria favours the big clubs and big cheque books...the RFU seems to care little for enhancing opportunity and mobility from the Championship..It doesn't 'look fair'...which is bad for the image of the game....and it aint at all fair for Yorkshire Rugby...just the victim of market forces?!

Are we seriously expecting to beat Bristol and Ealing this year? Of course miracles do happen ..and wouldn't it be nice...but is this really just me having another flight of fancy?

Maybe Premiership ambition is now a 'lost cause'...and all we will hear is the usual propaganda to keep folks on board?

I come to watch Leeeds (?) because at the back of my mind I believe it is do-able to regain a position at the Top Table...which would be great for Yorkshire's youngsters and all the fans across the County?...Am I deluded...and need to keep taking the tablets...or are there secret signings to come??

Maybe our best hope is to pool/amalgamate resources with Donny/Rotherham and try to rebuild a formidable combined team?

First time I haven't renewed my season ticket. I will come to games...all the same...certainly in the Autumn. I am back from hols 3rd wk Sept...but will follow on computers. By then we will have some 'hard evidence' to go on? Normally optimistic??....BUT big ???......and yet remain to be convinced this year!!?

Well I'm going to renew my season ticket and I'll watch from the end if I have to and I'll go to the on the road games. I've watched rugby from a lot worse places.

I've seen it lot worse teams as well but few worse supporters. Always moaning . If it's not about the price of beer it's about the food choices if it's not about the ground it's about the name if it's not about lack of information it's about on the road games and so on and so on. If you are a fan learn to live with it and go out and support your team.

I have always got answers to sensible questions when I have talked to the management. Too often, posters assume the managers are idiots - which they are not.

Agreed. But it is really frustrating that they are keeping us in the dark - we know money is tight - why can't they talk to us about it?
Turning your quote on its head: do management think we are idiots, then?

No, I am sure they don't think we are idiots.

Although I have no inside knowledge, my guess is that management is preoccupied with negotiations to maintain or even improve funding. If the money was reducing further, it would trigger difficult decisions and that is not the sort of thing you want to discuss publicly until you know where you are.

The Premiership cabal have made it very difficult to keep the relegated team in the Championship. London Welsh-type implosions won't happen very often.

Bristol have increased their squad with the signing of a new zealand international back.

I think that is for the season after next, when Bristol will be back in the Premiership.

We used to have one of those but he decided to take some of his money back, without notice, thus we were consigned to live forever in the slow lane.

Well yes, he sank in rather more than he finally recovered once he decided it was no longer for him.

If I had all the money I've spent on drink ..... I'd spend it on drink.

I am very worried that we have only one warmup game before season starts. All the others have at least a couple to get match fit. Is it because we don't have a big enough squad or no one wants to play us. I think we could suggest for fitness in the first few games. Especially one and or two players

My daughter was Mascot couple of seasons ago at the London Scottish game, well looked after had a great evening looking round changing rooms and was sent a pic of her and Buzz a few days later which still has a place on her wall,

IMHO its the one thing the club gets right constantly she will have a great day
