Great expectations

strong influence

A hundred or so years ago Charles Dickens wrote his famous novel. Ever since then hacks have used it's  title to lure unsuspecting readers in to look at a piece about some aspiring sports team and what they could achieve. This is not one of them.

Since the failure of the latest 3 year plan and the demise of the "Carnegie money" Yorkshire fans have struggled to get their heads round the most likely scenario to afflict the club in the forseeable future. Yorkshire Carnegie will be a Championship club. All thoughts of the Premiership should have evaporated when the play-offs did. That was our last realistic chance of getting into the top flight

The character of the championship will change next season as the clubs realise that the 10 loanees rule means they can operate with much smaller squads. Clubs with amiable Premiership neighbours such as Hartpury will have access to  a whole raft of young academy stars as and when they need them. This in turn will make it easier for clubs to return to part-time professionalism - a more sustainable blueprint for survival.

Despite all the factors that conspire against us ( and don't get me started about playing our home games on a building site) we have retained the core of last season's squad which gives me cause for optimism if not great expectations. If we secure a decent stand-off then I think we will play some good rugby both in and behind a big experienced pack.

I do not expect promotion (or relegation for that matter). I will be happy if we compete to the best of our abilities and take our chances when they arise. Anything on top of that will be a bonus.

Agree entirely, WW. This year is going to be one of consolidation/regrouping. Either we find some money from a Yorkie Sugar Daddy (not sure if they exist as a species?) or our Academy comes up with some world-beaters.

I will now be pleasantly surprised if we can turn out 23 fit men against the Exiles.

Jimmy puts an honest perspective on things in his video. Good core to the squad but it is small. No new players yet but there will very as the season goes. Loans no doubt.

Need to get someone to help back this club.

During the interview J-Lo alludes the fact that, in his opinion, some players have not been looking after themselves and hence we have niggling injuries in pre-season leading to the cancellation of our only friendly game at Glaws.

Unless he was trying to deflect blame for the small squad/no friendlies situation?

Overall, any communication from the club is welcomed and J-Lo is a believable, natural personality IMHO.

I have always liked J-Lo. He is someone we should all be able to relate to and support and we played some excellent rugby last time he was in charge. There is far too much pessimism on this message board. The expectation might not be quite as high as last year and the ground redevelopment doesn't seem to have helped but I'm sure we can all put up with having to watch the game from a different perspective for a while or are we all far too set in our ways? Let's just get behind our team.

A bit too late for pessimism. The reality is that, WE ARE DOOMED!

This year we will be second class class. If we can not raise a team for our first warm up game that says alot. No reason given but investing in the wrong areas on the pitch could cost us dear

The reason given was a lack of fit front row players. J-Lo said that some players had not looked after themselves and hence had picked up niggling injuries. The fact that, at the moment, we only have one stand-off on the books will certainly cost us dear.
