Hartpury matchday thread

Not tonight's match
By Bemused of BD23
August 31 2018

The lads open their account at Hartpury near Gloucester tonight. There is a match commentary from our friend Hegars on BBC Radio Leeds. If you cannot get the commentary join us here for regular updates.

Despite the optimism exuding from the club and, to a certain extent, the fans there is a marked split in opinion as to how we will fare in the southwest  tonight. The cognescenti on the Rolling Maul forum are 50% certain that Hartpury will do the business tonight. One pundit has actually cited the superior fitness of the Hartpury team as a factor in their victory.

All predictions are exactly that. Once the teams are on the pitch it is down to the 30 players who start. Who has had the best pre-season? Who has made the best signings?  Will home advantage benefit Hartpury?

The answers to all these questions will be made clear tonight. Stirlo and Bodo have picked their strongest side. Two rabbits have been pulled out of the hat with the signings of hooker Charlie Gibbins and international winger Dan Moore.

Two hours to kick-off (and counting)

C'mon Carnegie!

Half time 10-0 to Hartpury. Frustrating first half. Commentator Louis Brown confident we can turn it round in the second half.

not Sure the comment that they were trying to do things that they had been doing in traing but they werenít coming off helps. Isnít that the whole idea of training?

Not a great start. Cannot get commentary only twitter updates. Hopefully they are playing better than the score suggests? Hartpury always an unknown especially first game.

Trying not to be negative but that's always been carnegie.
One hit out first the majority of the starting 15. Undercooked imo.

Pants! No more of this optimism @#$%&, Iím reverting to normal and itís back to grumpy pessimism. A few new players and a new system is not an excuse for that many mistakes. Not just worried about the travel agents now, Richmond are worrying me!

Half the team new. 1 preseason game. It's not enough. Lots of work for the coaches and players that's for sure.

Early days and a huge wake up call.

Have always been concerned about playing one friendly against lower league opposition as adequate preparation.

The amount of handling errors mentioned in the report is disappointing.

Yeah it is, and that was reflected in the Twitter updates as well, although I think they are being done by the same person who does the match report.

It will be interesting to hear from Gelbel who I believe was at the game.

sadly getting a feeling of deja vu, seem to remember a lot of comments about a lack of pre season games last year following a loss to Scottish. In a league of this size any side wanting to do well has to hit the ground running, especially without the playoffs. The most telling thing from the radio was when the co-commentator (sorry, missed the name due to technical issues) started saying there were lots, then changed it to some, positives.

Onwards and upwards....hopefully!

Very disappointing start for Carnegie not always a great idea to start the majority of your new signings when they have only played one game . Stirling would have been in this position before Iím sure and would imagine heís not worried and as long as the players learn from their mistakes and have got ridden of the cobwebs ready for the next game .
