Just read that Mike Slemen has sadly passed away though couldn't find on BBC.
He was a superb player and many fond memories.
The RFU is saddened to learn of the death of Mike Slemen.
Mike was an outstanding England and Lions player, winning 31 caps for his country & made a huge contribution across all levels of the game.
🌹 Full tribute: [bit.ly]

Very sad. I remember him scoring a drop goal from half way for Liverpool at the end of the game to beat us in the cup at the Memorial Ground. It sailed over and I don't think anyone in the ground had ever seen him kick before.
Very sad to hear

A very powerful winger , as I recall.
It’s easy to forget how old some of these guys are ( including yours truly)
RIP Mike

When I was 18 and at school in Manchester (1988?), Mike Slemen coached Merchant Taylors School, Crosby. It was a thrill playing in front of an international. Against expectation we narrowly beat them away in a downpour. I remember he took time to speak to us and was generous in his comments, but in a very down to earth way. Also saw him play for Lancashire against Cheshire in the old County Champs - he looked dangerous every time he got the ball.
