It explains why Dan was in France, whereas the other England players stayed at home. Eddie isn't a big fan of the Exeter lads, is he? Nowell omitted and no place for either of the Simmons brothers! Personally, I'd have Sam starting at 8 and Joe ahead of Umaga.

Much as expected, it is going to be tough with those 5 missing.

Dan's omission is good news for us

Nowell must be injured, surely??
Same three loose-heads from RWC, presume that the pecking order won't have changed much in past couple of months, so may get Ellis back for match days??

Good recognition for the Saints players, though suspect that we won't see many of them in the slimmed down match day squads.
DeVoto in ahead of Nowell? Must be an injury thing??

Suspect starting XV for France will be pretty similar to RWC knock out matches - need a new no.8 but otherwise not too different. May be a chance for one of the bolters on the bench though.

It appears Eddie is going to ride YBY until the nuts fall off.

Hard to believe the Umaga pick is for any other reason than tying him to England. Nowhere near good enough for international rugby (yet)

No out and out No.8 in the squad then.

Bath lose 6, so pretty even steven. We only lose one forward (albeit one of the best) whereas they lose 4, so we will have to rely on the pack - old school Tigers.

Mark Wilson is recovering from an operation and due to start playing anytime soon. We will have to wait and see who Eddie Jones picks at No. 8 and how they go in the early rounds of the Six Nations and if Mark Wilson can get himself match fit and push himself into the squad for the later stages.

Umaga makes no sense to me, it's not like they are actually going to cap him. I suppose it might make him feel a bit more loyalty to England. Hope no-one gets hurt in Portugal this time.

Umaga similar to Olowofela's attendance?

I wanted to see Sam Simmons and Ben Earl in the same squad rather than one or the other. Also agree re. Joe VS Umaga, seems more the finished article.
