Season restart?

See the pro14 are looking to restart the season and just have each nations sides play against each other behind closed doors. As much as I'm missing live action, I don't see the point in this. From a selfish stand point, we have nothing to play for and had plenty of players out injured before the shutdown, plus it will cost more money. Let's just call the final table now and start planning for a new season in September.

It wont cost more money. It'll make money because broadcasters will pay to air it. That's why they need to do it.

I think its likely the 20/21 season wont start in September. More likely to be December.

In the meantime, it makes sense to try and get some sort of rugby played to get some money into the clubs again. Then, hopefully, before too long we can make a full return to a proper season of rugby.

Steve, are you going on the basis there that the broadcasters will have an additional agreement in place with the pro14 to show our 4 sides face off at the Millennium against each other? Can't see us getting anymore money from them on that? Test the players and personnel and have friendly matches behind closed doors and hopefully be fit for September if they are starting to look at bringing sports back now.

Doesnt need a new deal. Pro14 tv contract hasnt been cancelled. They just wont have been getting any money out of it because theres nothing to show. Put on fixtures and money starts to flow again.

Wouldnt be played at the stadium whilst its still a hospital, nor CAP for that matter.

The issue with restarting a full season is the travel. Playing games between Welsh sides is one thing, but restarting a torunament which means teams flying between the UK, Ireland, Italy and South Africa? Thats very different.

So, what i think will happen, is we'll get some sort of domestic derby games played for tv in August at the latest. But a full season restart cant possibly happen in September. We may be waiting until next year for that.
