carnegie match

a 5 point win for cov in atrocious conditions, which led to n error strewn game with lots of stoppages for injuries, mainly to carnegie players.
carnegies forwards held their own in the set piece but as a team created little. cov made no end of line breaks especially especially off their @#$%&. cov's pressure and fitness led to lots of tries in the final quarter.
the new wing saw little of the ball but looked pacey. back row prominent with oram carrying well. lewis again solid at full back.

I thought the teams were well matched until a couple of tries, helped by Carnegje errors?, gave Cov the upper hand after which they didn't look back and fully deserved the emphatic win. Good too see Oram and Bulumakau back and doing well. Hopefully Burrows' injury isn't too bad and doesnt keep him out of the big games coming up - same for Fenner of course.. Great to see youngsters getting game time too; time for Flinn to get some more game time although both 9s did really well yesterday.

I thought Lewis was superb yesterday didnít fumble or drop a kick his way in awful conditions!

Shame half of the game was taken up by Carnegie taking their time to get to lineouts! Ref should really have cracked down on that.

Overall a good workman like performance in very poor conditions.
A couple of things stood out for me..
In first half when kessel was passing the ball out to the forwards on the fringes they were standing still when they were taking the ball, which I think effected our ability to go over the gain. I found this really frustrating because thatís basic rugby! This improved later on in the game though particularly when White came on.

Dan Lewis again didnít put a foot wrong taking everything that was thrown at him. I could be wrong, but since he came into the side at Hartpury he hasnít dropped any high balls, and most of those games have been played in not very good conditions!! Well done Dan.

Iím pleased to say the line out functioned very well yesterday, I donít think we lost any throws at all, which is a novelty: letís hope that continues

So overall, not a bad day at the office, earning the 5 points in what must have been a pretty crappy week for everyone at the club.
