Hull Ionians v Plymouth Albion - 04 Apr 2020

All overtaken by events now, of course...

Hull Ionians really suffered in Nat 1 this year; on the wrong end of some grim spankings from the heavy hitters in this league. And the worst effected by the wet and windy winter. That said, they did well to take two BPs off us when they visited Brickfields as we wobbled in the wake of coaching changes.

Arguably though, they were well and truly mugged in pre-season as THAT Yorkshire side in the Champ (coming soon to Nat 1...) pillaged players and staff in dubious circumstances. Without being patronising, they deserved better of this campaign and did well to keep it together as competently as they did. It must be incredibly demoralising to have to play this, of all seasons under a giant "What If...?"

Which begs the question of how a resurgent Albion would have coped with a long away weekend to a club that had absolutely nothing to lose. Apart from a (H) win v Canterbury and a 20-20 draw with Roth, that 37-31 loss on the road in early Dec probably represents their best result of the season. Could they have run us that close again? Weather forecast for East Yorks tomorrow is pretty decent, pitch would be dried out and their coaches would be exhorting the team to go out and leave nothing in the locker.

On the flip side, I couldn't envisage JS allowing Albion to let much slip ahead of the Easter break. In all honesty, I wouldn't see the lads getting less than four tries or letting them within seven points. Plus, our defence has been tightened so much since Xmas that unless the game was really fast and loose, a 4T bonus to the hosts would be out of the question. No whitewash, though - especially if there was a whiff of travel sickness in the first half.

Overall, 0-5 to PARFC - but no picnic either.

Best of luck to Hull Is as they rebuild in Nat 2 North. Still a long haul to the White Rose county next year as the club formerly known as Leeds comes down from the Champ to take their place. And probably not the friendly welcome at Roth, either...

Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

Agree with baatalbion, good post again Stonehouse. Shame we couldn't visit Hull again, nice trip two years ago.

Down to two non-games left now of the season.
