Eng team for Scot

If I'm reading this right then Curry is still at 8 which is totally wrong as far as I'm concerned. It is too specialist a position to leave to a 6/7 and you lose Curry's ability over the ball. Ludlam in for Lawes which is OK I suppose and I am happy to see Kruis starting. Good to see Launch back on the bench.

Personally I would have moved Daly to 15 and brought in one of our 20 decent wingers.

Shame that Luke C-W is not there, he gives real punch. Will be interesting to see how Earl goes at international level.

AND bye bye Youngs to the bench! (for now).

But the lack of a proper 8 is my big issue - Nathan, Harris, Dombandt or Simmonds would have done for me.

Could be a tough day at the office !!!!

From the BBC:

Scrum-half Ben Youngs is among the senior players left out as England make five changes to their starting XV to face Scotland.

Willi Heinz replaces Youngs at nine, with flanker Lewis Ludlam in for Courtney Lawes in the wake of defeat by France on the opening weekend.

Prop Mako Vunipola and lock George Kruis return, with Jonathan Joseph replacing injured centre Manu Tuilagi.

Saracens' Ben Earl is set for a debut as one of six forwards on the bench.

Bath hooker Tom Dunn could also win his first cap as he joins Lawes and Joe Launchbury, who has recovered from a knee injury, among the replacements.

Joe Marler, who started the defeat by France, is left out of the matchday squad entirely with Ellis Genge as loose-head back-up and Will Stuart covering the other side of the scrum.

England team to face Scotland
Furbank; May, Joseph, Farrell, Daly; Ford, Heinz; M Vunipola, George, Sinckler, Kruis, Itoje, Ludlam, Underhill, Curry

Replacements: Dunn, Genge, Stuart, Launchbury, Lawes, Earl, Youngs, Devoto

If I bet, I would put money on Scotland. No real 8, not sold on Heinz or Mako. 15 who is like a rabbit in the headlights at the moment, Daly dropping high balls, yep, great.

Not sure what the Exeter hooker has done to get dropped? He looked far better than the fatty from the salaries. JJ, not sure I would call that, more of a Daly at 13 type of person and a propper winger on the wing.

Happy Youngs is not starting.

His missus is expecting any day now, same reason he left camp for a couple of days last week before being picked to play against France

As a friend said 'the only time Curry and 8 should be mentioned together is in a restaurant booking ' ;-)

Agree about the lack of an eight. When you look at the weather forecast the selection is bizarre and almost hands the game to Scotland.

Storm Ciara with 40mph winds and rain means you are going to need to keep the ball tight and there will likely be a lot of scrums. Curry had no control at the back last weekend and struggled to link up with Young’s or get anywhere off the base. No eight is a serious issue here.

Furbank doesn’t have much presence and doesn’t fill me with confidence, and then we’ve got the England premadonna in Daly, who is terrified under the high ball and just shuts his eyes and tries to look like he’s making an effort (much like his tackling).

All Scotland have to do is win the breakdown again like they did (with ease) two years ago, win some collisions and turnovers, then keep kicking it high into Daly’s and Furbank’s channels.

I get the feeling Eddie the ego is playing silly @#$%& and another fifth place finish beckons. I can see why he got sacked as Aussie coach after a nine match losing streak!

Most of the above, and I love the Curry and 8 comment!

Finally the Wrong Youngs has been dropped. Still concerned that he’s on the bench. He’s not going to be around in 2023, hasn’t actually ever been that good (which is why his name often appears next to the word “ponderous”) and is stopping us looking to the future. Time to move on.

an improvement at SH - though not sorting the issue of getting a team together for the future.

as for Curry at 8 - weakness of that selection was exposed last weekend, so no excuse now to have the same issues now the problem was identified and there is a week to fix it.
as for the rest of the selection.
I would have called up the Quinn.

as for the backs - obviously EJ is not expecting any high balls in the wind.
the new guy makes Daly half-decent at FB

if i were a Scot, I would be thinking that ENG are for the taking
and in many respects, I hope they do win. might shake us up and knock the arrogance out of the powers that be

France spotted it, so I am sure Scotland will, the first high half kicks were mostly aimed at Daly.

6 forwards on the bench, means EJ doesn't see them lasting more than an hour.

More to the point, the foul conditions did the job for us. Shame the Scots couldn't get their more open, ambitious and frankly, more entertaining game going. Although I suppose we ought to grudgingly credit England for that as well ...
