That's all good and well but are there any transfers rumours people can share?

We have 10 players impacted by Kolpak according to the papers but I can only list 9, nevertheless if we lose all of them (having only just signed some of them) it will have a big impact:

• Fiji
Albert Tuisue
Alivereti Veitokani

• Tonga
Steve Mafi

• Samoa
Motu Matu'u
TJ Ioane
Belgium Tuatagaloa

• South Africa
Pat Cilliers (leaving anyway)
Ruan Botha
Franco van der Merwe

Those that have British passports or pre-settled status are ok.

Perhaps one of Coleman or Naholo are here as Kolpak at the moment as that missing player.

We had Kepu, Coleman, Naholo, Rona and Phipps on the pitch at the same time yesterday. Given you can only have 2 overseas players on the pitch at the same time some of them must be Kolpak.

I don't understand. The RFU regs say we can only have 2 overseas (non Kilpak) players in the match day squad.

But yesterday we played
Kepu
Coleman
Phips
Hepetema
Hoskins
Cowan
Naholo
Rona
Meehan

Can someone explain?

At least Hoskins and Meehan have long lost British relatives and passed the Jack Charlton test , would imagine some others have also

It's difficult to explain without knowing more about each player e.g they might have a british passport, be classed as settled, kolpak, be an England qualified player, or some other complicated family reason!

Meehan (England qualified player)
Hepetema (England qualified player)
Cowan (Scottish qualified player)
Hoskins (probably settled status)
Kepu (probably kolpak due to Tongan parents)
Naholo (kolpak as born in Fiji)

Phipps, Coleman and Rona I can't explain but someone must have it all captured in a spreadsheet!!!

Hoskins is EQP through family. Coleman's father is Tongan.

Can see us letting go of belgium, Motu, freddie and Tj along with cilliers as mentioned before.

So an EQP is not an overseas player even if he is a foreign national. I didn't know that.

I can't see much changing, either there'll be a much bigger foreign player quota, or we'll still use the kolpak rules even though we'd no longer be in it.

Isn't it we can field as many as we want but we dont get a monetary bonus for only having 2 players on the park?

Nope, there's monetary bonus for fielding on average 15 EQ players in the match day 23 over the course of the season.

You can only have 2 overseas players on the pitch at one time.

EQP is based on World Rugby's Regulation 8, as below:

REGULATION 8. ELIGIBILITY TO PLAY FOR NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS

8.1 Subject to Regulation 8.2, a Player may only play for the senior fifteen-a-side National Representative Team, the next senior fifteen-a-side National Representative Team and the senior National Representative Sevens Team of the Union of the country with which the Player has a genuine, close, credible and established national link in which:

(a) he was born; or

(b) one parent or grandparent was born; or

(c) he has completed sixty¹ consecutive months of Residence immediately preceding the time of playing; or

(d) he has completed ten years of cumulative Residence preceding the time of playing.

Therefore London Irish have performed some canny signings this season with regard to regulation 8.
Good management eh!
