He was at Irish, Bath and now Quins. Whilst at Bath he was talked about ref international honours but then kinda disappeared for a bit, injury? I agree, I donít think we need him.

No thanks, we either need world class as a starting prop, or donít bother, our props do a job and to have another bench warmer eating up salary cap space and stopping Painter/Trinder from coming through would be stupid.

He is a good solid player, and hopefully wouldn't cost too much so I would be happy with signing him. But do we need him over other positions, that's the headscratcher? Personally I would sign him as good solid cheap players don't become available, and when they do in a specialist position it's worth taking on.

Boyd has suggested 2 or 3 more. Just donít see this guy as any better of a prospect as some of our younger players coming through. Other positions are more of a priority. If heís a good solid player heís not likely to be cheap is he?

We have to consider how long Ben Franks will be here as well? He is good in the loose, good in the scrum and I think he can play both sides of the scrum as well.
By cheap I mean hasn't played internationally so will be cheaper. He said he had a bad spell at Bath because the coaches didn't understand him and his type of game so wasn't allowed to be his dynamic self which then hits your confidence.
Under Boyd he could thrive, our set piece has improved beyond recognition under Matt F, I think Auterac is a better player than Waller and Van W- stronger in the scrum and a better carrier and defender in the loose.

Itís probably Agent talk? I think our needs lie elsewhere. Boydy seems to use homegrown talent supplemented with tried and trusted SH players.

I think Saints could bring him on with their respective styles suiting both parties.

I think Chris Boyd and our whole coaching set up makes players better so youíre quite right there. Matt F is clearly making our scrum better. I admit that he has been highly thought of. I was unaware of the issues he had at Bath. I think our priorities are in other positions. That said these rumours must come from somewhere.

When he arrived at Bath everyone had very high hopes, but it all went wrong over rumours about his attitude and that music (rather than rugby) was his first love - he did a bit of DJing etc

Hugely strong lad but never really saw any competitive instinct from him unfortunately. Could be an opportunity for him to fulfil his early promise with you guys.

Interesting read Matt. Thanks for posting it. On this basis I think our set up would suit him well but I still think other positions are our priority. Itíll be interesting to see if heís one of the Boydís 2/ 3 that he mentions.

Agent touting. Very unlikely signing.

A silent loose head? Mmmm our last two quiet loosies werenít to shabby -Tom Smith and Gary Pagel but Iím inclined to agree with FWF on this.

Surely next season likely to be Van Wyk, Waller and Trinder (assuming he performs well enough on loan)?

[Am assuming BF retires]

Plus Jack Hughes and Emmanuel Lyogun, although Jack may finish up playing hooker

It all depends on how long B. Franks and JVW are staying for.
We need 3 first team loose heads, currently;
Waller, JVW and Franks
Is Franks leaving at the end of season?
If so Auterac could be handy and rotate Trinder in, as JVW is contracted until 2021. Trinder then either steps into the 3rd slot 2021 season with Iyugon and Hughes wanderers/next can off the rank.
I would prefer have Mawi as the Franks replacement as he adds mass to help compete in Europe but as we saw this weekend- technique outweighs mass and Auterac is thought to be a decent scrummager.

Indeed we do Tedge but Karl is a tight head and very few are able to mix and match between 3 & 1
