HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE CLUB # 1 Harry Sloan

Harry Sloan joins the club from Ealing Trail-finders and before that Quins. Born in 1994 in the Kent village of Pembury, Harry attended Skinners School. He started playing rugby at Cranbrook Rugby Club at the age of 6, remaining there until he caught the eye of Quins’ Academy Coach Howard Graham when he was 15. In his early days he played almost anywhere on the pitch from fly-half to back-row to right wing. At Quins he settled down in the centres where he has remained.

He made his first team debut for Quins in the LV cup against Northampton in 2012 scoring a try into the bargain. Harry represented England U20’s winning the Six Nations in 2013 and being part of the U20’s squad who won the Junior World Cup in New Zealand in 2014 (where he played alongside Maro Itoje, Nick Tompkins & Tom Woolstencroft).  Harry made 13 appearances for England U20’s, scoring 2 tries. He made his Premiership debut in 2014 but he struggled to maintain his spot in the first team possibly due to a number of injuries, and went on loan to Ealing that season. In 2014/15 he was dual registered with London Scottish (along with the likes of James Chisholm and George Merrick). He signed a new contract with Quins in 2016 with Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea saying “He is playing the best rugby he has played for Quins and has shown that he can play at the highest level.”

Harry scored a try at Allianz in that classic Anglo-welsh game between Sarries & Quins in 2017 when a Josh Ibuanokpe try deep into the red and a James Lang conversion gave Quins a 30-29 victory.

Sadly though things didn’t progress for Harry and he left Quins in 2018, having made 36appearances and scoring 5 tries, to join the new bright shiny ambitious Ealing Trail-finders. Ealing had just let ¾ of their playing staff go, replacing them with 25 new signings in an attempt to attain Premiership status. Quins new DOR John Kingston said “Harry has made a notable contribution since he graduated from the academy. His energy and determination will be missed at the club but we wish him every success with his next move."

Harry spent 2 years at Ealing, helping them to 2nd place in the Championship each time. He was a regular starter in the 12 shirt.

Now 26, in joining Sarries, Harry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the Championship which will benefit the club. In return, Saracens’ superb coaching staff will endeavour to rekindle the promise and talent 6’1” Harry showed as a teenager. In Brad Barritt, he couldn’t have a better mentor!

On signing for Saracens, Harry said: “It was a brilliant opportunity for me to join the club, they got a real rich success and a great culture and it was a pretty easy decision.  My ambition is to get back playing Premiership rugby, I was lucky enough to go to Ealing and get some games under my belt which was always a problem with a few injuries in the past.  I’ve kicked on a bit and I feel like Sarries is the best place for me to develop and hopefully perform to the ability I want to perform to.”

Director of Rugby Mark McCall said: “We’re excited to welcome Harry to Saracens.  He is another player with experience of the both the Premiership and the Championship, and has a real desire to show that he belongs at the top level. This is a great opportunity for him to progress his game and we will do all we can to support him to that end.”

Harry’s Twitter feed states he is “toggle king on FIFA” and if his Instagram is anything to go by, he enjoys dressing up! He said “Extremely happy to sign for such a great club, looking forward to what the future holds @Saracens”.

Something Special here maybe Harry?

Let's hope the club can nurture his talent. There seems to be a lot of talented guys who get to England U20 and don't kick on - something's wrong in the kingdom ...
