Here are the finances of all 13 clubs in the Premier League. Some clubs were very late in filing due to Covid. This year also saw the windfall from CVC to each club.

Here are the figures from the published results of Clubs for the year ending 30 June 2019 (Season 2018-19)

The Key facts:

Results in Graphs

Graph1

The club with the greatest turnover, Wasps, makes the largest loss. The third highest turnover is Exeter and that gives them a profit mainly because of income from non rugby and lower overheads. Four clubs disclose they only have Rugby Income – Bath, Bristol, London Irish and Sale.

 Graph2

Here are the overheads with turnover. Where the green line is above the red means a profit and touching is breakeven and red well above green is not so good news. In our case we spend £1m on our temporary structures and this will be eliminated with a new stadium with extra capacity for revenue to realise Bruce's ambition for the club to be self sustaining.

Solvency

Clubs that require support from their owners/shareholders are Bath, Bristol, Newcastle, Saracens and Wasps. Saracens are in a much better place as Nigel Wray had written of £51m of loans last year.

 Graph3

All clubs except Worcester have filed their 2020 accounts and as soon as they have filed I will refresh the figures in what will be an interesting year with part of the season without any gates.

Thanks CC.

As an aside its always annoying that published accounts are so old! So much has changed since then even not accounting for COVID, such as salary cap reductions and pay reductions etc. It will be about 2025+ before we really see where the clubs are in terms of their finances - Bristol being the obvious one given that they were in the Champs that season?

Something fishy with the employee numbers surely - how can Newcastle have more employees than Bath, Tigers and Bristol put together?

The only accounts I am waiting for is Worcester for the 2020 figures. Will give more detail later.

Presume the average gate for Bath is slightly inflated because of the Twickenham game as I didn’t think the Rec held as many as 18000?

Ok back from Lacock guide duties so here goes

Why the 2019 figures were so late is Worcester and Saracens were late on filing. Saracens by 11 months and Worcester by 12 months. Worcester is a month overdue on their 2020 accounts.

Bristol accounts for 2020 will cover their 2019/20 season so we will have to wait for their league topping season of 2020/21.

Most accounts need to be filed by June 2022 for this last season so hopefully come next summer I can update where we are then.

Newcastle has 290 bar and catering staff as they have 1.7m income from conferences etc.

Yes as also with Sarries and Quins who had big games at Wembley and HQ I believe.
