By R Cumming
February 7 2011

On the 19th May a touring party of 57 representing the Worcester Wanderers fly out to the USA for a ten day Tour of New England based in Worcester Massachusetts. The Wanderers are taking a representative first XV and a social XV with likely fixtures in Worcester, Boston, Newport (Rhode Island) and possibly New York.

The Tour is primarily funded by the Tourists themselves plus many fund raising events, the culmination of which is a match on Saturday 14th May at Sixways between the Worcester Rugby Legends and the Wanderers. Followed by a Gala Dinner the Wanderers and Legends look forward to seeing you and welcome your support on what promises to be a day full of glorious memories.

Steve Lloyd, one of the first in the professional era at Worcester, is organising and playing in the Legends team and already has a squad of twenty four lined up. He is aiming for forty, all of whom will have game time.

With four former internationals already signed up, the current squad already reads like a whose who of Worcester Rugby for the past 20 years. Twenty four here – more to follow.

Mike Maguire only played a quarter of one!

One of the sites I still regret not seeing...someone who got on so badly 20 minutes was enough

Dare we hope? We dare.
Can we hope? We can.
Should we hope? We must.

Well, he was on the pitch for 20 minutes, TVM.

I think that 'played' might be putting it a bit strongly, though! (Sm100)

Whatever you do, do it safely!

I wouldn't be surprised if Nick Baxter plays in the front row the size he is at the present! He's got muscles in places I haven't even got places!

As a former rugby player myself I know that some of my best mates still are rugby teammates from over twenty years ago.It is nice to see that in the professional era things don't change and the pro's are really relishing the opportunity of returning to Worcester and renewing rugby friendships.
Another ten are now playing-- all from the past ten years namely:

James Brown,J.P.O'Reilly,Ed Orgee,Nick Baxter,Simon Morris,Tony Windo,Jim Jenner,Joe Ross, Paul Holford and Scott Barrow. The Legends are shaping up nicely.

As a souvenir of what we believe is going to be a tremendous day we would like the Legends to wear and be presented with a specially designed shirt each.

FANCY SPONSORING THE SHIRT,YOUR COMPANY LOGO AND ALL?£500 WOULD SEAL THE DEAL AND INCLUDE A SIGNED SHIRT FOR YOURSELF.

I would love to see those listed above back at Worcester for the Legends match but unless they are in the UK at the time it is going to be difficult.Remember this has been brought together by the Amateurs as a USA Tour fundraiser.
.
One further addition to the Legends squad is record try scorer Duncan Roke.So the Legends are beginning to worry about the youth and pace of the Wanderers.!!!

The GALA DINNER tickets can be preorderered from myself and the Wanderers now.

I don't think that I have mentioned on this board that the Match entrance is only £3, children are free and it is being played on the Sixways Stadium pitch.
