Here we go again....

The beginning of a new era?

Well we are back in the Premiership with the big boys, so how will we do this time? Relegation battlers or mid-table contenders? There will be a much different perspective from the stands this time around, last time the fans were ecstatic at being at rugby’s top table, hopeful and optimistic. This time around we all know how difficult it is to remain competitive with the premiership elite and that our squad will have to dig deep both physically and mentally just to stay in the league.

There has to be a certain amount of masochism involved being a Warriors supporter as we all wanted the team to be promoted to where winning games is difficult and where there is no respite from the pressure. So will the much maligned playoff system stand the boys in good stead? Will it act as a crucible in which the mental strength of the team has been forged into one that will withstand the inevitable ups and downs of the season ahead? There is no doubt that their mettle was tested in the late late show of the semi final verses Bedford Blues. I watched it again a couple of weeks ago and it was still total agony..

I am really looking forward to Premiership rugby again, re-kindling links between fans of the top table clubs and visiting the best rugby grounds in the country. (As well as a couple of iffy footy venues!) No matter the pain this is where I want the Warriors to be, there is no going back, that would be much more painful. So I will be doing my level best to show support for the team week in week out and fingers crossed come May 5th 2012 at Franklins Gardens I can enjoy a day out at my 2nd favourite ground as the Warriors have already made safe a consecutive season in the Aviva Premiership.

So here is to a new era where pragmatic fans and players alike stride onward and upward to the ultimate goal of Heineken Cup Rugby in the seasons ahead in the premiership.

Thoughts from - Shoutin Bloke - SURVIVAL!

Enjoying fighting it out with other teams in the bottom 3rd of the AP, which may not be aspirational, but this season is going to be totally different to last, and quite a bit different to our last in the Prem, IMO.We will be one of four with Falcons,Sale and maybe Chiefs.

If we bloody a few noses again in our quest to survive, then that will be some nice icing on the Prem cake, but it will count for nowt if we are basement come the end of the season.

Looking forward to pre-season games and seeing the team hit the ground running, with the Support doing the same.

I don't imagine we can depend on anything as far as having the respective mental strengths tempered in the crucible that is the Championship, given that the hapless Tykes have been yo yoing up & down since time immemorial (or so it seems) with little evidence of any tempering or honing of any asset which would come in handy in the furnace that is the Premiership.! Survival this year will be good! mid table would be better, but most fans would probably settle for survival - preferable established before the last couple of games. Please let us leave the blocks at speed and capitilise on our opponents who have made generous donations to the National sides for the duration of the World cup.

Tykes have always been hampered by being second string or even third to the Rhinos and possibly Yorkshire cricket, not sure what impact Leeds FC may also have had. Therefore they have struggled to get bums on seats to help the finances.

Saints and Quins have done well following relegation and re-promotion. However they have probably had more pull with recruiting that either Wuss, Exeter or leeds ever have.

I am cautiously optimistic and I hope we are able to consolidate a respectable eighth place or so well before the season end, however if we do form a shape similar to our original motif I wont be complaining because as far as I am concerned Hilly has more or less acted in accordance with my wishes (agreed this is nothing more than coincidence because I haven't spoken to him since our first game against Esher) That is to say he has recruited markedly from amongst the aspirants we have encountered and admired when we played against them in the crucible sic. that is the Championship.
