Dear Warriors Supporters,
We hope that you and those dear to you are staying safe and well in these extremely challenging times.
As the start of the 2020/21 season nears we would like to thank you for your continued support of Warriors. Your loyalty and commitment to the club is greatly appreciated in a period of uncertainty.
We had hoped that crowds would be back for the start of the new season. Unfortunately, as you will be aware, a second national lockdown means this will not be possible.
However, news that a vaccine for COVID-19 has been developed does give cause for cautious optimism at the end of a difficult year and we hope that we will be able to welcome you back to Sixways before too long.
The Warriors Family is not complete without supporters and there has been no greater supporter of the club over the years than Cecil Duckworth, who sadly passed away at the weekend.
Cecil’s legacy is immense. Warriors would not be a Premiership club and Sixways would not be one of the magnificent stadium it is today without Cecil’s drive, vision and generosity.
We are proud to inherit that legacy and determined to continue Cecil’s work. The tributes that have been paid to him reflect the enormous respect and esteem in which Cecil was held and we are going to miss him.
We are also going to miss you, the supporters, at least in the short-term. We share your frustration that matches will again have to be played behind closed doors. We have all had to adapt to what has become the new normal and, although the players have got used to playing behind closed doors they do not enjoy playing matches in empty grounds and, more than anyone, they miss the Sixways Roar.
But we all know that, although the stadium may be empty, you will be cheering the team from afar and following Warriors’ progress via TV or through social and the more established media.
You will also share the pride and delight of having four Warriors players – Ollie Lawrence, Ted Hill, Duncan Weir and Cornell du Preez – involved in autumn internationals.
Congratulations to Ollie on making his England debut as a replacement against Italy and to Duncan on starting for Scotland for the first time in four-and-a-half years as a result of his outstanding form for Warriors.
To have two products of the Three Pears Warriors Academy in an England squad is a source of particular pride for everyone associated with the club and an inspiration to the other talented youngsters that we have at Sixways.
We hope for plenty more positive stories this season to help see you through lockdown and COVID restrictions.
In the meantime we will continue to work closely with the other clubs, Premiership Rugby, the RFU as well as clubs and governing bodies from other sports on plans that ensure that when crowds are allowed to return they will do so in a safe, COVID-secure environment.
We have worked hard to make Sixways as safe as possible for all visitors and staff and are delighted that, thanks to the efforts of everyone, we were able to complete the 2019/20 season without any positive COVID tests.
