Matt James leaves and rumours of other moves

Bridgend fullback Matt James has announced that he will play his rugby with French outfit Bourgoin next season after hearing that Kevin Morgan has signed a deal with Pontypridd.

Morgan looks set to gain a place with the regional team otherwise there will be huge question marks over his signature but the other full back space is far from decided. Gareth Cull and Brett Davey look to be the two main contenders for the spot although which will get the nod is unknown. Davey is highly experienced and is able to act as the teams place kicker but then again so is Gareth Cull. Also, Davey has been criticised in the past for his lack of pace something which could go against him in the selection race and with his contract expiring at the end of the season he may have to face the prospect of it not being renewed.

Speculative rumours have been flying about recently - one of which linking Davey to Leicester but ValleysRavens.tk believe that a more realistic option would either be for Davey to find a smaller English club or possibly try his hand at coaching in Wales - assuming of course that he doesn't make the final 30 in the regional squad.

Meanwhile, other rumours have been heard recently - one of which linking Gareth Thomas the Bridgend captain to his former club Cardiff. The Piemen are currently searching for a centre to partner Jamie Robinson and their current first choice centre Pieter Muller may soon be on his way out of the Arms Park.

However, Bridgend insist that Thomas will play a vital part in the new regional team - something which all Ponty fans will agree with even though he turned his back on the Valleys club a few years ago and signed a deal with Cardiff just after being announced as a Pontypridd player by the media.

Thomas also has a year to run on his contract with Bridgend but money has never been a problem for Cardiff with benefactor Peter Thomas always ready to splash the cash. ValleysRugby.tk would love to see Thomas playing for the Bridgend Pontypridd team next year and believe that he will stay for the first season at least.

Other rumours are being circulated about Gareth Williams moving to Cardiff. It would be a good move for him as he would be guaranteed first team rugby with Cardiff having difficulty at the moment in finding someone to play hooker. However, what's to say that Cardiff won't make a move for Mefin Davies. The Ponty captain has been a tremendous player over the past two seasons with Ponty and has broken into the international setup since his move to the Valleys but Davies has been on a part time contract with Pontypridd over the last two years and so unless a new contract has been negotiated he could be on his way out. Lets hope not as both him and Gareth Williams are two of Wales' best hookers and both will surely want to be part of one of Wales' strongest regions.

All of the rumours so far have surrunded players leaving but one other one is that the Bridgend Ponty newco is interested in Ebbw Vale prop Martin Jones.

And finally the rumour mill, clearly working overtime has churned out two other possible moves - Ponty youngster MAtthew Nutthal could be linking up with the Gwent team and he could be joined by Dafydd James who is also being targeted. Nuthall will be the future and it is important that he is kept hold of and Dafydd James is arguably one of the most important pieces of the new teams jigsaw - he along with Gareth Thomas should be held onto at all costs.
