DAVEY MOVES TO GWENT |

Pontypridd full back has turned his back on the Bridgend
Pontypridd region, instead opting for a move to the Gwent region where he
will be competing against Percy Montgomery for the full back position.
Davey has been consistent for Pontypridd over the four seasons he has been at the Valleys outfit but despite being offered a one year contract with the newco he has decided to move to Gwent. Although Davey has not always been a favourite with the supporters he has always been committed to the club through the bad times as well as the good and he will be missed. Also he is often critisised for his lack of pace but he more than makes up for it with his rugby brain which is always thinking clearly - which was illustrated by his deliberate knock on against Newport on Tuesday knowing that Ponty were going to get a penalty. He then took the penalty quick and as a result Geraint Lewis scored under the posts. A worrying thing for the newco is that they only have one fullback in the squad and he will be missing the start of the season through injury. Josh Taumalolo, another candidate for the position has signed a deal with Harlequins whilst it has been well publicised that Gareth Cull has not been offered a contract and Matt James is moving to Bourgoin. Good Luck at Gwent Brett - you've been a tremendous servant to the club for the last four years and we'd like to wish you all the best even though you won't be part of the Bridgend Ponty team as we enter a new era of regional rugby in Wales. |
