Blues sign Ed Fairhurst

Cardiff Blues have today confirmed the signing of Canadian scrum half, Ed Fairhurst to bolster their threadbare squad.

Speaking today at Hensol Castle; the Cardiff Blues team HQ he said;

“Joining the Cardiff Blues is a great opportunity for me and having worked with Geraint John was a great advantage for me as he obviously knew a lot about the team and suggested I should join. The training facility’s here are great, and as a scrum half having Rob Howley as a backs coach was also a big factor in helping me decide to join the Blues.”

The 27-year old is in the mould of Mike Phillips, and will provide some MUCH needed cover for the scrum half position.

He has 32 caps for Canada, and comes with high reguard from Dai Young's former right hand man, Geraint John, who is now Canada's 'High Performance Coach'.

He is on the bench for Saturdays clash with Leinster, with Mike Phillips out, Wayne Evens is selected ahead of the new Blue.

Meanwhile, there are also reports from Australlia that Cardiff have signed 22-year old hot prospect Ben White. Flanker, White, currently plies his trade with the ACT Brumbies, but has been rumoured to be heading North with the Cardiff Blues.

While Fairhurst has now been confirmed by CardiffBlues.com White remains a rumour, athlough Dai Young recently wrote in the Munster match programme that we will be signing 2 new players in the comming weeks.

But with Fairhurst filling up the non-EU qualified spaces allowed in the squad, we'd better hope he has a granny with a Welsh accent...
