Mark Lewis, Cardiff Blues number 8, is the type of player that Dai Young must love to have, and must work to keep. True enough he's no Xavier Rush in the playing department just yet, so why the heightened profile all of a sudden?

His committment.

In last weekends massive Anglo-Welsh win over the Saracens, Lewis scored a try that will long live n the memory. After a sterling performance, Mark recieved a pass from Ben Bliar with the line bckoning. The big man put his head down and went for it. He held of a big impact tackle to still score the try, which almost broke his jaw.

The hit knocked him unconcious momenterily, but his lst action was to stretch an extra metre to the line, and score a valuable try. Referee Tony Spreadbury, an ambulance driver by profession, was straight on the seen and attended to the concussed Lewis.

He asked;

"Are you alright number 8?"

To which a groggy, aching-jawed Lewis replied;

"Did i score?"

That is the type of committment we need, and can inspire a side to do massive things.

Lewis starts again the weekend as Xavier Rush faces a possible two weeks off due to a groin injury. It will be the 100th game that the Cardiff Blues have played, and all involved will be looking for a win to mark the occasion.
