It now seems apparent that Cardiff Blues centre, Marc Stcherbina will be leaving for Rodney Parade rivals, the Newport Gwent Dragons. The news comes as a shock after it had seemed the Australian would be around for the next campaign, but it’s just the latest in a string of transfer set backs.
The rumour first began months ago, with the news that the regions would have to cut down on their number of non-Welsh qualified players, but after a WRU reprieve, it had looked as though the Australian fan favourite would see out the final year at Cardiff Arms Park, however that is no longer the case.
With the arrival of outside half cum centre Ceri Sweeney, plus the recent emergence of Jamie Roberts at inside centre, it's perhaps been deemed that Stitch is no longer required.
It means the likely centre partnership for next season will see Shanklin move to 12, with Jamie Robinson outside him, while other centre options include Sweeney, Hewitt, Gareth Thomas and Roberts.
His departure is the latest transfer disappointment following the arrivals of Sweeny, Mustoe and Brew in a very dull transfer period.
The Blues have their first home game of the new season, in a friendly against Northampton Saints on Friday August 29th, while there are away fixtures being arranged also.
Finally, the Blues Family Fun Day takes place this Sunday, 29th June, at the Arms Park from 12, and is a free event.
He was conspicuous by his absence at the funday though so unfortunately this may well be true.
may have even been on this site!
If that was the case maybe he will stay. i for one hope he does.
There are rumours of Weepu arriving around christmas time, which is exactly what Howlett did with Munster this season.
