Halfpenny Signs New Deal

Rumours are circulating that the Blues massively talented young winger, Leigh Halfpenny, has signed a new contract with the region. It’s thought the Welsh International has put pen to paper on a 2-year extension to his current deal.

Halfpenny has been a revelation for the Cardiff Blues this season, scoring 8 tries in 13 appearances, totalling 66 points including kicks.

Since making the step up to regional rugby, he has become one of the hottest properties in Wales, and it's long been feared the Swansea product could return to the big spending Ospreys.

But if the rumours are to be believed, Peter Thomas and Dai Young have completed a massive coup in retaining the 20 year old who has already been touted as the next Shane Williams.

There has been nothing official from the Cardiff Blues on the future's of Halfpenny and colleagues Nicky and Jamie Robinson, who have also been linked away from the region, but things it's thought the deal was only signed on Friday.

As for the Robinson brothers, WalesOnline had reported both were set to stay with Cardiff, but it has since emerged that Jamie is unhappy with a lack of game time, prompting a potential move to Sale Sharks. Nicky is thought to be keen to stay in Wales for at least two more years, as he makes one more effort to become Wales' first choice outside half.

News on Halfpenny is expected to be announced within the next fortnight.

Fingers crossed.
He's not a Cardiff boy and you could understand if he had the O's in his heart; I think he will re-pay the faith CRFC and the Blues have shown in him though.
Would be gutted if we lost him to any side, especially the Ospreys, he's been brilliant for us.

Really pleased with H/P - for one moment there I thought he was going West.
