Macleod Targeted For Blues Return

Sale’s former Blues fly half, Nick Macleod, is in talks about a move back to the Welsh capital. The Cardiff-born 28 year old is thought to be one of the names currently targeted by chairman, Peter Thomas.

Since his move to Sale Sharks in 2008, Macleod has becomes the Manchester-club’s first choice outside half, leading them to a respectable 7th in the Aviva Premiership so far this season.

Having originally joined a star-studded Sale squad four years ago, he has experienced more lows than highs at his current club as they went through massive changes over the past 2 years. However, he has been a consistent performer in times of turbulence, and is now reaping the rewards of his loyalty.

Last month, Macleod told the Manchester Evening Post,

“I’m loving my rugby, it’s a great place to be and a great bunch of lads to be around so, hopefully, I’ll be able to stay.”

However he has yet to sign a new deal and has now been contacted by his hometown club. It’s thought that Macleod, though very happy at Sale, is very tempted by the move which would see him re-ignite his hopes of earning an illustrious Welsh cap.

In 2006, Macleod was drafted into the travelling Welsh squad during their tour of South America. He cut short his pre-planned summer holiday and flew directly to Argentina – this memorably resulted in Macleod scouring local shops to buy rugby boots as he did not have any with him! (see link below)

However, that was to be his only Welsh call up.

But now he believes that a return to Wales, following years of exposure in the pivotal position, could lead to more opportunities to pull on the red jersey.

He could be joined by prop Rhys Gill in making the return to Cardiff following English exile. The former Blues prop has been in devastating form with the English champions, but is being ear marked as a potential replacement for Gethin Jenkins. The 25 year old has publically admitted he could be tempted by a move back to Wales.

Oh god!! On a positive note we are in the silly season and until the Blues put contracts on the table for players and they sign then agents are talking and the club is tracking lots of players. Hopefully it comes to nothing.
On a more positive note Casey wants to stay.

I'd rather have Macleod than Parks to be fair.

He is not the answer to our nr 10 problem. FFS. If we are to fulfil our ambition at dining at the top table, we should be looking beyond this, surely?

Only an observation.

I always thought Rosie was a good player with all the skills to be a cracking 10 who just looked a little too paniced at 10 for us. We needed a reliable backup to Robinson and he wasnt it.

Four years later he looks a more mature player and I think he'd be a great signing. Mind you, he seems to've made a nice niche for himself at Sale so I wouldnt blame him for not moving back.

He isnt the answer. But the answer is never going to be any one player.

The answer is probably to bring in decent players who want to play for Cardiff and will fit in with the rest of the side. Macleod could be part of that.

If Parks and Sweeney are the answer then lord knows what the question is.

I would prefer Ben Twelvetrees who has put clubs on high alert after refusing to sign a new contract with the Tigers we should break the bank and get him he can cover 10, 12 & 13.
