Geth to Return?

Geth to Return?

Walesonline are today reporting that Cardiff Blues could attempt an audacious swoop to re-sign Gethin Jenkins just 4 months into his 3 year deal with Toulon.

Gethin Jenkins is one of world rugby’s most renowned props having 91 caps for Wales as well as being a British and Irish Lion starter. However, he has failed to make the same impact at his new club.

There’s no doubt that the French love a beefy prop; one who can not only hold his own in a scrum, but will dismantle his opponent. Better known for his exceptional work-rate and openside-esque turnover ability, Jenkins doesn’t really fit the French model.

He has struggled to oust his Andrew Sheridan at Toulon, and his instead been used primarily as a replacement for the final 20 minutes. It’s thought that Jenkins, thought patient, isn’t too happy about this.

That much is true. As to whether the Blues will ever bring their fan favourite back, well, that seems a little less likely.

Gethin was never keen to leave Wales in the first place. He was undoubtedly messed around by the Blues chiefs at the time his contract was up, and was almost forced out the door to alleviate some of the financial problems at the region. However, having made the decision and signed a 3 year deal, it would take some legal wrangling to get him back to Cardiff.

Serious story, or Western Fail? Time will tell, but I know where my money would be...

I wish him the best and he does not looks very happy in Toulon, and not only on his scrummaging, but : Will Cardiff pay for his 2 years left ?

Toulon never forced a player who's uncomfortable to stay here, imho it will be negociable if a financial deal can be found.

Because Gethin signed a 3 years deal, and he knew what he did at the time.

From what I saw yesterday, the welsh model versus Samoa didn't fit him well too...

He'll not solve our scrum issues if he does return. We need scrummaging prop, not a 3rd flanker, at the moment

Released in June on last news in France, because Toulon can't recruit a new prop in the middle of the season.

It seems that WRU asked for an immediate release, Toulon answered they could loan him, if WRU or Cardiff could pay back his wage, they don't. So he'll honor his contract to june 2013 and be released. End of discussion.

Right now, he's on the worst transfers pantheon with Willie Mason.

Unbelievable such a jerk's on the Welsh team, instead of a nice guy and great scrummager like Eiffion Lewis-Roberts...
And he pretends to be on the Lions list ?
Damn, these guy looks all but a Lions spirit... (Sm147)

Gavin should know plenty of the HR people around the clubs.

Heard that Gethin has arranged a fight with a few of the Toulon players in a local bar on his return to the south of France.

According to Midi Olympique, it's already done.
Jenkins will be released in june and will come back to Cardiff for a 4 years contract.

Lucky you !

3 years for Cuthbert and perhaps 4 for Gethin. We seem to be trying to get longer deals on player.

A 4 year contract with Gethin seems a bit long since he is over 30, but on the other hand it means we will have him for a year after the next WC when he will likely have retired from international rugby.

If we get Matthew Rees, at least we will have the making of a good HC front row for once with Bourrust and Andrews doing fairly well at THP at the moment.
