The new head coach

For my first article on this site, thought would make sense as someone new that my first article be about the new head coach to the Cardiff Blues, that being Danny Wilson.   The 38 year old has been at Bristol for the last few seasons as forwards coach for the Championship team, and is highly regarded by the staff at the club headed up by Andy Robinson, however, when Cardiff Blues made the approach to Bristol for their forwards coach, Wilson felt the time was right, to become the main man at the capital city based region.

Wilson, has cut his teeth as a coach at Cardiff RFC, London Welsh and the Newport Gwent Dragons, before being named as the Wales U20 coach, doing a sterling job and getting them to the final of the Junior World Cup in 2013, after an historic victory against New Zealand in the group stages. After his success with Wales, he was appointed forwards coach for the Scarlets, and did a fantastic job with their pack of forwards, who used to be looked as a bit of a soft touch, Wilson was then approached by Bristol, where he took up their offer to work over the Severn Bridge. The coaching set up at Cardiff Blues will be Wilson as head coach, Graham Steadman drafted in as defence coach from Newcastle Falcons after successful spells as defence coach at Ireland and Scotland national sides, and Paul John as backs coach. Reading newspaper articles, Wilson comes across as a knowledgeable coach, who has worked at other regions so understands Welsh rugby, the fact his area of expertise is forward play in my view is a big plus, as the set piece has been an issue at the Cardiff Blues for a period of time now. I sure both Wilson and Steadman are fully aware of the tasks they have at hand, the defence last season was woeful in a lot of matches.

However, I do believe if the players we have can get their heads down and work and gel with the coaches we can have a far better season next season, let's be honest could not get much worse! I wish the coaches and players the best of luck next season and let's get some pride back in that shirt.
