Anglo Welsh cup Close to Reality

Wales's remaining four regions could be playing in a newly introduced Anglo-Welsh cup, with talks between the WRU and RFU believed to be at an advanced stage
Premier rugby, which represents all of England's professional clubs are believed to be very keen on the idea of introducing the
tournament as part of a plan to replace the ailing Powergen cup.
It is understood that David Moffett met with his English counterpart Francis Barron to broker a deal, which would see the re-introduction
of more frequent cross border games.
A similar Anglo Welsh competition ran in 1996, but proved unpopular due to fixture congestion and its complex nature.
However regional rugby's improved standards have re-ignited interest in a re-vamped knock out format as a replacement for the Powergen cup,
which many believe has run its course.
