Gareth Thomas was appointed Mike Ruddocks' first captain ahead of the 2004 Autumn international series.

Versatility has been a key part of Pencoed born Thomas' international career, since making his debut at the 1995 World cup against Japan, he has appeared in all three quarter positions during his eighty caps.

During his seventy-second of those matches, Thomas successfuly broke Ieaun Evans's Welsh try scoring record of thirty-three in the final Six Nations match in 2004 against Italy - a country which had previously seen him equal Wales's match try scoring record of four in 1999. He will ong be rembered for his ninety metre interception effort against the Wallabies at Cardiff in 1996

Shortly afterwards he joined European giants Toulouse from the now defunct Warriors of which he captained in their one season in exsistence. Previously he head been with home town club Bridgend in two spells between one with Cardiff.
