In Profile: Gareth Thomas

Alfie is by far the most popular Welsh player at the moment, amongst supporters and fellow players. Thomas is also proving to be an inspirational leader following his appointment as Wales captain in October 2004.

A world class player comfortable in any of the three quarter positions or a solid counter attacking full back. As such he has been capped 56 times on the wing, fourteen times at centre and now holds a dozen appearances at full back.

At current he is the third most capped Welshman of all time, behind Neil Jenkins (87) and Gareth Llewellyn (92).

Two records he does hold however, are the Welsh try scoring record, displacing Ieaun Evans's thirty three score record. Also he shares the record for most tries in one match, scoring four against Italy in 1999.
