England 7s lose out to New Zealand in RWC Final 2018
July 23 2018
England have lost the World Cup Sevens Championship final after they were beaten 12-33 by New Zealand in San Francisco.
In a repeat of the 2013 final which the Kiwis also won, Sione Muila gave New Zealand the lead after 60 seconds when he broke through two tackles to dot down.
As the men in black dominated possession, Tim Mikkelson went close but Tom Mitchell's last ditch tackle prevented him form scoring, before Mulia grabbed his second from inches out off the resultant ruck.
Some neat offloading got England back into the game, with Mike Ellery taking Dan Norton's pass and sprinting through a gap to make it 7-14 at half-time, as Mitchell added the extras.
New Zealand restored their two-score advantage as Joseva Ravouvou's neat footwork saw him cross down the left wing, as he became to joint top try scorer at the tournament.
Harry Glover's superb break through the middle of the pitch set up England's second, when he offloaded to Ruaridh McConnochie who did well to finish under pressure from the Kiwi defence - the missed conversion left in 12-19 with three minutes left.
