For those on holiday in the Twickenham area or indeed those who have youngster just desperate to visit Twickenham the Home Of Rugby, why not take a trip to the Museum of Rugby.  

The Museum has so much to offer both adults and youngsters.  The ultimate visitor experience for the world rugby enthusiast,
home to the finest collection of rugby memorabilia in the world. The Museum opened in 1996 and takes visitors through the history of the sport from its origins (in an English public school) to the present day.

More than just a collection of interesting artefacts, the Museum of Rugby is an inspirational journey through the history of the ultimate team game. Innovative, interactive exhibits bring to life some of the great moments of the international game. Reconstructions of days gone by; the sights, sounds and (even) smells of rugby football appear throughout. Action-packed films show footage of rugby matches from the very earliest right up to the present day. You can even test your strength on the formidable scrum machine!

Zurich Rugby Photograph of the Year Exhibition 2003/2004

On display at the Museum of Rugby from until the end of August is the second annual Zurich Rugby Photograph of the Year Exhibition.   It aims to give professional sports photographers a platform to display their talent. Out of a staggering 400 entries, 44 have been short listed for display.

There were four separate categories this year:

• European / International Rugby
• Zurich Premiership
• Taking on the World – Australia 2003
• The Spirit of Rugby

A winner, second placed and highly commended image from each category was chosen by the following judges:

Josh Lewsey, England and London Wasps
Paul Morgan, Editor, Rugby World
Sarah O'Rafferty, Head of Sponsorship, Zurich
Nick Wainwright, Mail on Sunday Pictures
Sir Clive Woodward, England Head Coach

The overall winner, chosen from the four category winners, was Tom Jenkins from the Guardian Observer with his shot, ‘Welcoming of a New Hero”.

The Zurich Rugby Photograph of the Year will provide the Museum with many of the best pictures submitted.

Pictured here, by the Mail on Sunday’s Mark Pain, is a joyful Lawrence Dallaglio following England’s historic World Cup victory in Australia last year.
