England Sevens 4th & 5th June Twickenham - Preview

England Rugby Union host the penultimate round of this year's IRB Sevens Tournament at Twickenham 4/5th June. The Final Round will be in France at Stade Jean Bouin 10/11th June.

England Sevens have won the Emirates Trophy both  in 2003 and 2004 prior to this New Zealand took the trophy in 2001 and 2002.  And once again New Zealand are favourites to take the trophy this year and they are set to take the overall title championship for the sixth time in a row as we enter the last two rounds.

England Sevens Captain Simon Amor has called on all fans to give the Sevens Tournament their support this weekend.  Amor commenting today said

"Its great to play in  front of a home crowd and your friends and family and with Twickenham being the only UK leg of the IRB Sevens this is our only chance".

This year sees The Nobok Challenge match between Jonah Lomu and Martin Johnson on the same day as the opening of the Sevens Tournament at Twickenham of this Captain Amor said

"Jonah Lomu was made on the sevens circuit.  He was discovered by the All Blacks coach Gordon Tietjens and made his first real impression playing for New Zealand in the Hong Kong Sevens.   I was really hoping he would make it back to fitness and play at the Rugby World Cup Sevens earlier this year as it would have been great to see him play again, and I am really looking forward to watching him in action this weekend."

 "Jonah has done so much for the game of sevens.  He has really raised the profile and been a great ambassador for the whole sport that it is tremendous, and very fitting, that he will be back in action as part of the sevens weekend on Saturday." 

 

IRB SEVENS TROPHY

Tickets for both days of the Emirates Airline London Sevens, which include the Nobok Challenge match between Martin Johnson XV and Jonah Lomu XV, will be available  for purchase on the day at Twickenham and via Ticketmaster on 0870 902 0000.
