On August 14th, O2 invite you, your friends and family to Scrum in the Park, a special day out in Regent’s Park with the best of English rugby on offer.
Scrum in the Park The posters promised the chance to ‘Meet the World Champions', and with a main hook like that, it's no wonder that so many thousands turned up to Scrum in the Park 2004, in Regent's Park. Described as a festival of rugby in the heart of London , Scrum in the Park is organised by proud England Rugby sponsors O2, and the success of last year's event made sure there would be a repeat, and given entry is free, there's no excuse not to go. Attractions range from Touch Rugby challenges for participants and spectators alike, kicking competitions, a chance to win a once in a lifetime training session with a top England coach, and of course, the highlight of the show, the opportunity to see the England squad training up close. There are plenty of other reasons to visit, including having your picture taken with the Webb Ellis Trophy, the Zurich Premiership trophy and the Powergen Cup, various skills and fitness challenges, an O2 Interactive zone where you can see how technology supports the team and test your rugby skills on the latest games consoles and much more. And if you fancy a break, the Chill Out zone includes a spa, retail therapy at the Rugby Store (with special offers on selected merchandise) and relaxation in front of the giant screen with some classic rugby action. Or you could simply lie back on the grass and enjoy the sunshine with a cold drink. I'm pleased to say I went to last years', and left very happy. Apart from all the attractions, the event really reinforced my faith in the game, and illustrated perfectly how truly brilliant our great sport is. The England training session was superb and at various points the action literally took place a mere metre in front of me. Players from the squad were brought to one side and interviewed one by one, and a special autograph signing session was organised for those wanting the World Champions' coveted scribbles on their shirt, rugby ball or poster. Kids weren't left out either with face painting, junior kicking competitions (at one point a random 12 year old spectator was being instructed by Olly Barkley on kicking for goal!) and lots of freebies. It's unlikely that these sorts of things will be left out this year. I urge anyone in London (or even nearby) to take a visit to Regent's Park on the 14 th August and I doubt you'd go away un-entertained. 14th August 2005
