RFU Championship rugby returns following a one-week break with two former finalists kicking off the action at Goldington Road on Friday night. Bedford, runners-up to Worcester in 2011, are up against Cornish Pirates who were beaten by London Welsh in last year’s showpiece occasion.
Bedford won three out of the four meetings between the sides in the 2011/12 campaign, while the head-to-head record in the last 10 fixtures is five wins apiece.
On Saturday, London Scottish will be looking to make it a hat-trick of home wins against Moseley when the two sides meet at The Athletic Ground.
The Exiles won both of last year’s corresponding fixtures (37-21 and 23-20), while Moseley claimed wins in each of their two home games.
More Yorkshire Regiment Trophy points will be up for grabs at Clifton Lane in the battle between county rivals Rotherham and Leeds. Leeds tasted success on their last visit to the Titans’ home ground when they recorded a 21-18 win in the promotion play-off stage.
Leeds will be relieved that Robin Copeland has moved on; the former Rotherham flanker scored in three of the five matches played between the sides last term. Overall, Rotherham have won nine league games to Leeds’s seven since they first met in National Four in 1994.
Jersey plays host to runaway leaders Newcastle at St Peter on Saturday, while Plymouth welcome Bristol to Brickfields.
Bristol have won each of their last nine games against Albion, with Plymouth’s last home win in all competitions stretching back six-and-a-half years to their 16-9 success on March 5, 2005 in the semi-final of the Powergen Shield.
Sunday’s solitary game sees third-placed Nottingham play Doncaster Knights at Meadow Lane.
Nottingham have scored 30 points or more in each of their last seven games against the Knights, their only defeat during that time being the 46-42 thriller at Castle Park in the 2010/11 season.
