Devon come back to level the championship that any one can still win.
Devon U20 31
Cornwall U20 16
A match that saw Cornwall as favourites turned out well for Devon who took control of the game in both halves. With 5 Albion players on the pitch it was a real home game for them 4 on the Devon side and one as captain for Cornwall.
Devon kicked off and were soon on the score sheet from a penalty from in front of the posts which was easily converted by Daniel Hawkes. 3 - 0
Cornwall were soon back level from a penalty awarded in the centre of the pitch converted by their scrum half. 3 - 3.
10 minutes in and fly half Daniel Hawkes kicks the ball forward towards the try line which was chased by Joe Skinnard but was just not able to gather the ball for the touch down. Three minutes later the pair were successful as Joe gathered the ball before going over in the corner. Daniel did not make the kick from 2 metres in from the right hand touch line just missed to the right of the posts with his left foot. 8 -3
Daniel tried to kick over the defence just 10 metres out from the line the ball was caught by the Cornish hooker who called mark. He tried to pass the ball to the scrum half to take the kick but had to take it himself which he did with a tap before passing out to scrum half to kick correctly this time.
On 20 minutes Cornwall make an attempt on the Devon line from a catch and drive move but were not able to make it count. They passed in to the centre in an attempt to run it in which was also blocked and a counter attack was made Daniel Hawkes but was called back for a penalty, probably for offside, 15 metres and just left of the posts. This attempt at points worked and Cornwall reduced the deficit to just 2 points. 8 - 6
Just before the half hour Cornwall were penalised for killing the ball right in front of the posts and Daniel did not have to be asked twice to collect another 3 points to his personal total. 11 - 6
After a high tackle Cornwall collect another 3 points to make up for the penalty they had just missed. 11 - 9.
Cornwall went into the turn around on a high after their right wing scores just to the left of the posts in the 10th minute of time added on. 11 - 16
A fairly even half with both side taking control at times but Devon having better possession and territory Cornwall had the points on the board.
9 minutes into the second half Cornwall were down both Props with loose head going off to the right after seeing yellow and tight head limping to the left with an ankle injury. With only one prop on the bench the scrums went uncontested for the period of the sin binning.
With two men up as the tight head had not yet left the field, he was still being treated, Devon win the line out and inside centre scores under the posts which was converted by Daniel. 18 - 16
15 minutes in and a penalty awarded 30 metres out Daniel Hawkes tries to take a quick tap kick and run for the line but the referee called him back because his was running towards an injured Cornish player on the ground. So he took the 3 penalty points. He picked up another 3 penalty points 9 minutes later. 24 - 16
The final score was left to Frazer Clilverd who powered his way over on the right after an attempt had been made on the right to bring the score to 31 -16
With only one match each to play the competition is very open and any team could win.
