Ladies team get off to a far better start than the men! Sitting 3rd in the table (not third from bottom) the ladies due to play bristol side on Sunday.
Two out of three is far better than 2 out of 8!
Our ladies have had a far better start to the season than our men. Whilst there was a slip up with their second match when they met possibly Premiership bound Oakmeadians when they lost 83 - 3 with the three points coming from fly-half Nancy Stone from a drop goal mid way through the second half.
The Ladies travel on Sunday with two wins under their belt and third in Championship South West 2. They are set to take on the confusingly named “St Mary’s Old Boys Ladies” based in Bristol they sit bottom of the table having only scored a single try so far this season.
Last week was Albion’s first home match and were rewarded with a three try win over Supermarine 17 - 10. Whilst they made mistakes and had a much higher penalty count than the Swindon based visitors Albion took the chances they were given and made them count.
Kate Hancock, who collected two tries in the first half started off with a 100 metre dash in the 8th minute, from her own line after intercepting a loose pass just feet from her own line. Supermarine came back around the half hour after a 5 metre scrum that seemed to be fed straight into the second row but went unpunished and the visitors touched down under the posts.
Kate’s second try came in the last play of the half after she had a 30 plus metre break on the left before the ball was lost to the visitors but the ball was regained and Hancock again touched down under the posts but this time converted by Helen Wilkinson.
Albion’s second half points came from Kim Barber after Nancy Stone took a quick tap penalty 30 metres out enabling the hosts to catch the defence on the hop for Kim to touch down on the left.
With the match all but won they held a good defence but the visitors were allowed through after a penalty with a man over went through to close the score sheet.
