Heineken Cup Draw – June 7

Connacht fans will only have to wait two weeks to find out who they will be playing in the Heineken Cup next season reports Knockon.ie's, Rob Murphy as the draw has been confirmed for Tuesday June 7th (time to be confirmed) to be held at Twickenham Stadium.

The latest European Rankings show that Connacht will find themselves in the bottom pool of seeds but only just, as thanks to their European Semi final appearance last year means they are ranked ahead of the other five bottom seed sides.

Connacht could end up with Toulouse, Leicester and Glasgow, they could also end up with Northampton, London Irish and Edinburgh.

What is clear, is there will definitely be one French and one English side in their pool, there is a one in six chance of a second English team being involved, otherwise the third opponent will be one of the Magners League sides.

Connacht cannot be drawn against an Irish province as the ERC strive to keep each pool devoid of match ups involving two sides from the same country. This can happen once though, thanks to Harlequins gaining England a seventh place.

Are you saying that we could get an interpro by virtue of trying to English sides apart Rob?

I hadn't realised how close we were to being in the 3rd seed section. Only one point separated us from Edinburgh.

True, but we'd have needed two points to get 3rd seed. In a tie situation Edinburgh won ranking points this year, but we didn't.

Another reason an automatic ranking point for being in the HC is wrong!

Did not realise that. So that means that both Scottish and Italian teams will always have 4 ranking points even if they do not win a game. Bit harsh.
