THIS WEEK AT HEADINGLEY is back for the new engage Super League season, as we build up to the first game of the season: Leeds Rhinos vs. Celtic Crusaders at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium. We take a look at this weeks news, in brief, from the home of the Leeds Rhinos. It’s the only place to catch up on all the Rhinos news you need to know.

RHINOS FAVORITES TO LIFT ENGAGE SUPER LEAGUE TITLE

William Hill, who recently agreed a new two year partnership with the RFL to be the sport’s official bookmaker, have announced that the Leeds Rhinos are 7/4 favorites to lift the title for a third season in a row at the Grand Final. Winger Scott Donald is 10/1 favorites to finish at the seasons top try scorer.

YOUNGSTERS INVOLVED IN SUNDAY’S LAZENBY CUP

Brian McClennan was pleased to announce his seventeen man squad to take on Hunslet in the historic pre-season clash between the two Leeds clubs. McClennan hopes it will motivate and boost the players confidence ahead of the Super League. Here is the squad in full: Tom Bush, Ben Collins, Ashley Gibson, Michael Ratu, Danny Lawton, Danny Allan, Simon Brown, Luke Ambler, Paul McShane, Luke Hardbottle, Chris Clarkson, Joe Chandler, Dane Manning, Matthew Fox, Liam Brown, Brooke Broughton, Andy Curwell. BAILEY RULED OUT OF OPENING MATCH

It has been announced today that prop Ryan Bailey will miss the opening game of the season against the Celtic Crusaders, as he is still recovering from knee surgery. He is one of five senior players who will miss the first game. Ben Jones-Bishop and Simon Worrall will too miss the game, but perhaps more worryingly, so will Brent Webb. He is expected to be fit for the Carnegie World Club Challenge though. Fans who were eager to see Danny Buderus play in a Rhinos shirt will also have to wait. Brian McClennan confirmed that Buderus (biceps) is expected to be ready before Webb. Rob Burrow, who missed Monday’s pre-season game against Hull FC due to injury will feature in the match against Celtic, but it is unclear at this time wether Kevin Sinfield (calf) and Danny McGuire (foot), will be available. 

LEEDS “RAN OUT OF TIME” IN JJB’S TESTIMONIAL MATCH

Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s pre-season testimonial didn’t go to plan, as the Leeds Rhinos ran out of time, and lost 20-16 to Hull FC. The Rhinos first try came at the start of the second-half when Ryan Hall touched down, following some neat handling by Matt Diskin, Ali Lauitiiti, Jones-Buchanan and Keith Senior, who provided the final pass. The Rhinos improved drastically in the second half, but maybe that was an indicator of how poor they were in the first half, as they could not seal victory as an enthusiastic Hull held on to their lead. The Leeds outfit included 11 players of which were in the engage Super League Grand Final squad.
