Are we happy? (you know what comes next!)

In probably his worst review of the season Big Bob rambles about the Chiefs last home match of their inaugural Premiership campaign.

Can you believe it?

What?

Everything, can you believe everything that has happened since the play off finals a little under a year ago?

The lads just have just beat another international laden side in front of the biggest crowd of the season, furthermore we beat them without playing that well, at least for a lot of the first half. End of season or not Rob will be looking at the match video, and it will show a wobbly line out, an immense scrum, several occasions of superb defending with tackle after tackle, and some moments of brilliance – ones made by TJ and Luke come back to me as I write this. All in all, especially when bearing in mind that Wasps were offside for large periods, this was a lovely way to end a fantastic season.

We have now taken at least one point off every other team – in fact over both home and away we  have taken on average, a tad over four points from every other team – link. And we sit two thirds of the way up the Premiership table, with four teams below us. Tony Rowe’s promise to stay in the Premiership once we got into has been delivered in style.  And Rob has avoided the relegation dog fight as he said he would aim too – the visa issue aside.

My late father, a farmer (who was often out standing in his field) would often remind me that grass either grows or “goes back”, this meaning that grass, people and therefore organisations either improve or decline – they don’t stay the same for very long. The way that the Exeter Chiefs have improved and are improving is a sight to behold, for me it is inspirational.  If I am honest I am bit worried because we have to do it all again next season – but I was apprehensive when I saw “Flutey, Shaw etc” in the programme and as it turns out I didn’t need to be.

As match reviews go this is probably my worse one, I blame a little bit of alcohol plus a lot of euphoria. I’ll stop with a well done and two thank yous.  This report has to acknowledge another centurion – well done Haydyn!  Secondly  to the players, whether or not you got awards you are great – thank you. Finally a special thank you to Brett Sturgess who happily had his photo taken with my wife after the match, she’s happy, I’m happy, we’re all happy right?
