The last game of the 2019 season for the West Wales Raiders is on Sunday 1st September away at Whitehaven who are chasing promotion. The season has been very disappointing for the Raiders with only one solitary victory over Coventry Bears to talk about. Hopefully things will shape up better for 2020. Fingers crossed that they do!
Three games left including the Welsh derby.
Three games to go - can we get another win? ROUND NINETEEN Sunday, August 11 Workington Town v West Wales Raiders 15:00 ROUND TWENTY Saturday, August 17 West Wales Raiders v North Wales Crusaders 15:00 ROUND TWENTY ONE Sunday, September 1 Whitehaven v West Wales Raiders 15:00
Raiders beat Bears - A great victory and performance!
The West Wales Raiders put in a superb 80 minutes to register a comprehensive win against Coventry Bears who were blown away by the best performance from the Welsh outfit in years! The final score was 44-16 and it was very close to being 50! The scenes at the end highlighted how much this meant to players, officials and supporters. The players oozed confidence, tackled hard, offloaded superbly and passed crisply and accurately. Coventry were never in the game and the score probably flattered them! This result is a great one for all connected with the Raiders, and a huge boost for coach Kim Williams.
The next three fixtures...
Three big games coming up! Starting on Sunday, July 14 Keighley Cougars v West Wales Raiders at 15:00; then we have two home games at Stebonheath beginning with on Saturday, July 20 West Wales Raiders v Coventry Bears 15:00 - this game gives us our best chance to break the losing sequence which goes back nearly two years. As I write this we have suffered 47 consecutive defeats and these three games give us the oppurtunity not to reach the half century. The 50th game would be the scheduled match on Saturday, August 3 West Wales Raiders v Newcastle Thunder again st 15:00.
Some new blood but same old results...
West Wales Raiders travel to Oldham on Sunday 30th June, before welcoming Doncaster to Stebonheath on Saturday 6th July. These two fixtures are followed by a trip to Keighley Cougars to take on the team who until recently were below us in the league - thanks to their 12 point deduction, which has now been overtaken. The visit of Coventry Bears on 20th July may give the Raiders their best chance of a victory almost two years exactly since the last time the team won. 2019 has proved to be as tough as 2018....
Looking for that elusive result..

Two home games against Workington and Hunslet, with three tough away matches at Doncaster (again), London Skolars and Oldham at the endo of June. Good luck to all who pull on the jersey and welcome to new signings and those making returns.....
Another heavy defeat
Unsurprisingly West Wales Raiders exited the 1895 Cup at the first round stage going down 70-6 at Doncaster. The Raiders did actually take the lead before conceding a dozen tries in another heavy defeat. 2019 is shaping up to be another tough season as the club chases it first win since August 2017. The players have a chance to lick their wounds before returning to Doncaster on Sunday, May 26 for the league encounter between the two teams. This is followed by on Saturday, June 8 West Wales Raiders v Workington Town at Stebonheath and then on Saturday, June 15 away at London Skolars.
Oh dear, it does not get any easier.
In the Welsh derby North Wales Crusaders heaped more misery on West Wales Raiders with a thumping victory by 70 points to 8. (12 tries to 2). This was North Wales first win of the season and helped them bounce back after their Challenge Cup defeat by non league opposition the last time out. 2109 is shaping up to be another tough season for West Wales; and this was a match supporters and followers had hoped would herald the first positive result of the campaign, unfortunately it did not work out that way.
