Sunday evening's game with Wakefield was postponed following the tragic death of a Trinity Wildcats reserve-team player. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Leon Walker. The forward collapsed in the 63rd-minute of a reserve league game in Maesteg – with the player’s life cut tragically short at the age of only 21.
The game, scheduled to be broadcast live on Sky television, was postponed following the tragedy.
Walker, an exciting prospect boasting honours for Yorkshire and England, collapsed during the reserve-game between Cru and Wakefield at Maesteg. He was airlifted to Morriston Hospital, Swansea and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Nigel Wood, RFL Chief Executive, said: "This is truly shocking and tragic news and our heartfelt condolences go to the parents, family and friends of Leon as well as the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats club."
This is a truly terrible piece of news. Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies must go to the family and friends of Walker and all associated with the Wakefield Wildcats. May he rest in peace.
The 21-year-old is the second Wildcats player to pass away in the last six months. Adam Watene, a Cook Islands international, collapsed dead in a training session last October.
