South Wales RLFC have announced their nickname will be “The Scorpions”. The name was shortlisted alongside “Phoenix” and “Celts”, but the Scorpions has got the nod as preparations continue for the big kick-off on February 28th against Workington Town.
The club have been gauging feedback from supporters over the last week, and chairman Phil Davies shortlisted ‘Phoenix, ‘Celts’ and ‘Scorpions’ as potential mantle for the new club.
After much consideration, “The Scorpions” got the nod.
Speaking on our messageboard, Davies has told fans that he feels the ‘Scorpions’ name acts best in giving the club its own new and unique identity. ‘Celts’ has obvious connotations with the now Wrexham-based Crusaders, whilst ‘Phoenix’ suggests a rising from the ashes.
The Scorpions will now continue their preparations for next season's much-anticipated Championship One campaign. An open trial will be held in the New Year, with club officials hoping to appoint a Head Coach in the near future.
Bring on Workington! Up the South Wales Scorpions RLFC!
