With former Welsh international Andy Legg in attendance, the South Wales Scorpions crumbled to a hefty defeat at the hands of a well-organised and astute Hunslet Hawks side. The visitors were particularly dominant after half-time as they cruised to a 42-12 victory.
Anthony Seibold's Scorpions were brought back down to Earth with a bang as they suffered a thumping defeat at the hands of Hunslet.
The Yorkshire outfit, backed by 60 or so travelling supporters, were quicker and more physical than their inexperienced opponents and rarely looked in doubt of bagging the points.
Richard Chapman broke the deadlock for Hunslet before Stuart Kain ran over the second try of the game.
A superb run from Christiaan Roets got the Scorpions back into the game on thirty minutes as the former Bridgend Blue Bull showed pace and power to barge through the Hunslet backline, but Paul Marsh's try ensured the visitors took a ten point lead into the break.
The majority of the record 798 crowd were left hoping for a comeback when player of the month Steve Parry saw his try converted by Lloyd White shortly after the re-start - but, from there, Hunslet dominated proceedings.
The visitors had more pace, guile and power and often left the Scorpions looking hugely inexperienced. Danny Grimshaw, David March, Kain and Neil Lowe bagged the second-half tries for Hunslet.
Seibold's side kept battling and nearly bagged late consolation - but, in truth, this was an easy win for Hunslet. The Scorpions have done exceptionally well in their first couple of months as a professional outfit, but this game acted as a reality check ahead of next weekend's important clash at the Gnoll against Oldham.

I wonder if losing Aled James 15 minutes before kick-off with him having tweaked his back was a loss that was to set back preparations and obviously needed the formations to be re-jigged.
Never mind, onwards and upwards lets put it right against Oldham next week.
