Wales win in France 12-11 !!!

Wales won the Alitalia European Cup on Saturday afternoon in Southern France by beating their hosts in a tense and very close match. The French thought they had snatched the game with a drop goal to take the score to 11-10 but a long distance penalty with three minutes left gave the Welsh Dragons a deserved win. Speaking after the match Mark Rowley could not hide his pleasure......  

 

"This is massive for Wales Rugby League," he said. "Some people have compared it to winning the Six Nations in rugby union but I think it's bigger. We are now in the elite of Rugby League and are in the top four nations in the world. This is a massive boost for Rugby League in Wales and we look forward to welcoming England, Australia and New Zealand next year. The win shows how far we've come in such a short time. It's our biggest achievement ever." 

Wales beat their French hosts 12-11 to retain the Alitalia European Cup and now qualify to face England, Australia and New Zealand next year in the Four Nations. They will replace Papua New Guinea who are taking part in the tournament this year.
