Scorpions to play home match at Cardiff Arms Park

The South Wales Scorpions will play a home fixture at the Cardiff Arms Park on the eve of February’s hotly-anticipated Millennium Magic weekend at the Millennium Stadium. Aled James' men will entertain Warrington Wolves Under-20s in the Welsh capital.

With thousands of rugby league fans set to descend on Cardiff for the Millennium Magic event, Scorpions chiefs will be hoping for a bumper crowd at the Arms Park for the pre-season friendly.

The clash will see rugby league return to the Arms Park for the first time since 1996. Wales played England that year; and the now defunct South Wales RLFC also played five competitive fixtures at the stadium.

February’s friendly will see South Wales’ rugby league outfit play away from their Neath home for the first time.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10. Concessions are available at £5.

Who gets the profits from this game?

With the wrinkly old farts at CAP being so hostile to Rugby League being played on their hallowed ground (think back to the Crusaders), is it that the crafty old sods are trying to cash in on the Millennium Magic?

Why isn't the friendly being played at the Gnoll? When the Crusaders played a Nat. League div. 2 match on the eve of the Millennium magic they attracted a crowd of over six thousand at the Brewery Field.

I think it is more logical to be in cardiff for this game, neath is just that bit further and whilst you would travel on a may bank holiday it probabley isnt the same on a wet, cold friday in february. so i can see why in cardiff but I agree Dimebar I hope the club receives the profits and will be a good boost.

If the old gits at CAP are sooooo willing to hold a game at their ground, why not stage a few National League 2 matches there as well. Lets see how accommadating they are, with only a few hundred supporters paying at the turnstiles, as apposed to the several thousand expected for the Warrington friendly.

Just wondered like................(Sm111)

They should be well versed in dealing with a few hundred fans, thats what Cardiff RUFC currently get at the place ,sometimes Im even one of them! I would hope we get the gate receipts atleast and maybe some of the bar takings split between us and CAC?

Rumour has it you even did a Cardiff RFC away game recently, Rob? (Sm100) I one day hope to nominate you for some award as Wales' best sports fan!!

The game at the CAP was discussed tonight at the Supporters' Meeting. Whilst it is not a competitive game, there is potential for a big crowd and this is a real chance for us to market ourselves to the Welsh capital.

Ian Golden has some good plans to market the club to local schools and hopefully a good number of Northerners will come to a new ground and swell the numbers in attendance.

I would love to see one NL game a season played at the CAP. Perhaps this is something we can discuss and consider after this friendly, should it prove a success.

If every Scorpion fan can persuade one person they know to go to this game we'd have a really good crowd. RL on a Friday night in Cardiff - it doesn't get much better.

See you on 11th Feb.
