Dave Clark's South Wales Scorpions suffered a heavy 34-4 defeat at the hands of a Wigan Warriors XIII on Saturday. David James' try handed the Scorpions their points in a game which was moved to the Llandarcy Academy of Sport due to bad weather.
The Scorpions, sporting green jerseys, returned to action on Saturday for a pre-season friendly against a Wigan XIII.
With the Warriors kicking-off their Super League campaign against Huddersfield on Sunday, the Lancashire club sent a squad predominantly made up of Under-20 players.
Gil Dudson was named in the Wigan team, as was Wales under-18 captain and former Scorpion Rhodri Lloyd.
The fixture had to be moved from the Gnoll at short notice due to the weather conditions, with the G3 pitch at Llandarcy Academy of Sport accommodating the fixture.
New coach Clark fielded 13 of his new signings, with a host of players in action for the South Walians.
A young and inexperienced Wigan side dominated the game for long periods, and took control thanks to first-half tries from Shae Lyon Fraser, Lloyd and Jack Murphy.
However, the hosts bagged a try moments before the half-time hooter as James found his way over the line in the corner. Lewis Reece failed to convert the extras.
Wigan continued to control proceedings after half-time, scoring three second-half tries.
Lloyd completed his brace shortly after the hour mark, Scott Leatherbarrow added another try soon after and Cook Islands international Anthony Gilling rapped up the scoring in the closing stages.
The Scorpions return to action next Sunday for their first ever Northern Rail Cup game. Clark's men will take on Rochdale at Spotland, the venue where our play-off dream came to an end in the club's first season.

There were a number of supporters in Wetherspoons around lunchtime but due to their not knowing how to get to Llandarcy, decided to go home.
After looking forward to this game for the last few weeks it was disappointing to find the game unavailable to many supporters.
Just a thought, but next time we have a game scheduled for a time when the weather is looking bad, perhaps there could be transport put on (payable, of course) to take supporters to the venue.
you make a very good point regarding the supporters not being able to get to the game.
the supporters club do try to keep everyone up dated as and when we can.
i would like to hope this is just a small glitch to the start of this season and also hope that it will not put off people turning up to home games, this is a very important season for the club and the more home support we can get the better.
the supporters club will be running busses to as many away games this season as we can so away support is vital aswell

I was chasing a game in Lancashire and updates were non-existent.
We have a good club down here and credit to a small team for getting the game on.
It wasnt ideal to move venue, but I for one was glad it went ahead and feel the club deserves credit for this as clearly they couldn't have made much money and probabley made a loss if anything. Can't wait for Sunday and seeing how the new team mixes it against Rochdale.
