All Golds exit Cup as Scorpions return two weeks away

When the South Wales Scorpions return to the rugby field on April 3rd, they will have faced four weeks without competitive action – unlike their hosts, the Gloucestershire All Golds.

Having bowed out of both cup competitions, the season is effectively starting again for the Mountain Ash club at the Prince of Wales Stadium in a fortnight’s time.

Their opponents, however, may be a little less rusty.  

The Gloucestershire club were in action on Sunday (March 22nd), as they entertained Hunslet Hawks in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup.

Ultimately, the South Leeds club claimed a largely comfortable victory in the West Country, booking their spot in the next round with a 28-10 win over the University club.

All Golds, who thumped Skirlaugh in the previous round, had some positives to speak of from the Hunslet defeat, however; and also came close to knocking Barrow Raiders out of the League One Cup earlier in the season.

The game marks a key test for the Scorpions, as life in the new look rugby league pyramid gets underway against our nearest rivals.

The opening fixture will indeed be a tough test for the Scorpions and hopefully the few weeks additional recovery time will have worked on those players nursing injuries.
