Scorpions beaten as Knights seek solace for City of York

South Wales Scorpions lost their eighth game of the season on Sunday, after being comprehensively outplayed in the first-half at York City Knights.

The Scorps trailed 34-0 at the break at Bootham Crescent, before gaining some second-half redemption with the second period split six points apiece.

With York City FC losing their Football League status this weekend, the Knights were seeking to restore some sporting pride for the city - and did so with a seven-try victory over the struggling Scorpions.

Scores from Tyler Craig, Harry Carter, Josh Tonks and Mark Applegarth, plus a brace from Kristian Brining, gave the hosts a commanding advantage.

Pat Smith continued York's dominance after the break, but a converted Christiaan Roets try and the visitors stemmed the tie, before a resolute defensive display from the Caerphilly club kept the gap at 34 points.

South Wales do not return to action until May 15th, with Barrow Raiders set to visit Caerphilly.
